Game 129, 2016

Cubs at Dodgers, 1:05PM PT, TV: FS1, SPNLA

Julio Urias (4-2, 3.95 ERA) will pitch for the Dodgers and Jason Hammel (13-6, 3.06 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs. Hammel had a 22-inning scoreless streak blown up in his last outing when he gave up 10 runs to the Rockies in just 3 1/3 innings. In Urias’ last outing he threw six shutout innings against the Reds.

Game 128, 2016

Cubs at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ABC7

Bud Norris (6-10, 4.69 ERA) goes for the Dodgers against Mike Montgomery (4-5, 2.69 ERA) of the Cubs. Norris’s last start was only 3 2/3 innings when he gave up six runs on seven hits and four walks. Montgomery made his first start for the Cubs his last time out; he went 4 1/3 innings and gave up one run on 60 pitches. He came over from the Mariners at the trade deadline.

Game 127, 2016

Giants at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CS-BA

The Dodgers send rookie RHP Ross Stripling (3-4, 4.04 ERA) out to face the Giants for the first time since his MLB debut when he pitched 7 1/3 innings of no-hit ball on April 8 of this year.

Moore (7-10, 4.18 ERA) was acquired by the Giants at the trade deadline last month. He’s made four starts, walked 22, struck out 17 and posted a 4.70 ERA in 23 innings for them since then.

A-Gon is on a 17-game hitting streak. Utley has a sore foot and may be replaced by Kendrick at 2B. Howie is 6-14 with a double against Moore over his career.

Game 126, 2016

Giants at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: ESPN, SPNLA, CSBA

Rich Hill is scheduled to make his first start for the Dodgers since his acquisition at the trade deadline three weeks ago. He’s had blister troubles, and if you wonder how those are treated in the big leagues, read on. Mike Petriello has some excellent analysis of Hill’s “stuff.”

Hill is 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA, all with Oakland before the trade. His opponent will be Johnny Cueto, who’s 14-3 with a 2.90 ERA.

Winning Game One of this series means even if the Giants come back and win the next two games the Dodgers are still in first place, albeit tied. I like that better than tied now after a loss.

Happy news from and for the Segedin family.

Game 125, 2016

Giants at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSBA

The most-anticipated series of the season until the next one between these two teams begins tonight. It starts with the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner (12-7, 2.25 ERA) and his home-run bat facing the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda (12-7, 3.29 ERA), whose 5-43 (.136) average and .346 OPS aren’t going to scare anyone. Bumgarner is 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA in two starts vs. the Dodgers this season, while Maeda is 1-0 with a .047 ERA in one start against the Giants, giving up one earned run over seven innings back in April.

Personnel news of a sort: Rob Segedin had to be places in a hurry after getting off the plane from Cincinnati:

Presumably there’s a replacement for Segedin waiting in the wings if his wife goes into labor mid-game.

Game 124, 2016

Dodgers at Reds, 9:35AM PT, TV: SPNLA, FS-O

Lefty Scott Kazmir (10-6, 4.41 ERA) takes the mound for the Dodgers in this getaway day game, and Homer Bailey (2-1, 3.66 ERA) does the honors for the Reds. Kazmir hasn’t gotten an out in the seventh inning since July 30 and he’s walked 10 in his last 16 1/3 innings. This will be Bailey’s fifth start of the year as he’s been recovering from Tommy John surgery most of the season. He hasn’t made it into the seventh inning yet.

The Giants have the day off while the Dodgers play. One hopes it doesn’t help them prepare too well for the opener between the two teams Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

Somebody post the lineup in comments when the game starts.

Game 122, 2016

Dodgers at Reds, 4:05PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FS-O, MLBTV

LHP Brett Anderson (0-1, 45.00 ERA) makes his second start of the year after coming back from four months on the DL. He gave up five runs in the first inning of his first start, then he hurt his wrist diving for a comebacker in the second inning and had to come out of the game. His opponent will be LHP Brandon Finnegan (7-9, 4.54 ERA), who has struggled with pitch counts all season. He’s had only two starts in which he’s made it into or past the seventh inning, none since June 9.

Neither team does well against lefties: the Dodgers are hitting .228 against them, and the Reds are hitting .236.

Game 121, 2016

Dodgers at Reds, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Bud Norris (6-9, 4.26 ERA) goes for the Dodgers and rookie Tim Adleman (1-1, 3.72 ERA) pitches for the Reds.

MLB.com is not responsive, so I’m a little short on further details about this matchup. Sorry.

Norris is 3-2 with a 4.34 ERA since coming to the Dodgers from the Braves at the trade deadline. He hasn’t pitched since he was pulled from the July 31 game with a mid-back strain after only 13 pitches. That led to a stint on the 15-day DL. Adleman’s big league record was compiled in May before he suffered an oblique strain and went on the DL himself. He’s made two starts at AAA Louisville since his recovery.

Pederson’s newfound success is profiled at ESPN.

Today, the #Dodgers reinstated Adam Liberatore & Bud Norris from the 15-day DL and optioned Casey Fien & Ross Stripling to Triple-A OKC.

Game 120, 2016

Dodgers at Phillies, 4:05PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSN-P

The Dodgers go for a series sweep with rookie RHP Ross Stripling (3-4, 4.07 ERA). He’ll face RHP Jerad Eickhoff (8-12, 3.82 ERA), who’s like Dodgers’ pitchers in that he gets in trouble in the sixth inning when the opposing batters get their third look at him. His ERA for that inning this year is 12.71. Stripling has, this season, shown himself to be better in a long relief role; he’s made three long-relief appearances in July, posting a 1.54 ERA over 11 2/3 innings. Over his 10 starts this season, Stripling has a 4.61 ERA.

Pitching notes from Jon Weisman. Highlights/lowlights: Kershaw may throw a bullpen session on Saturday, and Ryu is not expected to pitch again this season.
