Game 32, 2024

Dodgers at Diamondbacks, Time: 6:40 PM PDT, TV: Arizona Diamondbacks, SPNLA

RHP Landon Knack (1-1, 3.27 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers while LHP Jordan Montgomery (1-1, 2.77 ERA) goes for the DBacks.

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1940 The Dodgers tie the major league mark for consecutive wins from the beginning of the season with style as James ‘Tex’ Carleton no-hits the Reds, 3-0, for the team’s ninth straight victory since Opening Day.
  • 1944 In the first game of a doubleheader split, first baseman Phil Weintraub gets 11 RBIs, and player-manager Mel Ott scores six runs, drawing five walks in the Giants’ 26-8 rout of the Dodgers. Brooklyn wins the nightcap 5-4 in a game shortened due to darkness.
  • 1988 Dave Winfield ties the major league RBI record for April established by Dodger infielder Ron Cey in 1977 and matched by Dale Murphy of the Braves in 1985. The right fielder, who was on base at least once in every game, drives in his 28th and 29th runs of the month in the Yankees’ 15-3 rout of Texas in New York.

  1. We have Mantiply to thank for personally bringing our runners home.

  2. With Walker on his way back, this is likely Knack’s last start in the Bigs for awhile.

  3. Just bee-cause you didn’t K last night doesn’t mean you have to turn it around tonight.

  4. Using Phillips last night with a four-run lead in the 9th may haunt us.

      • This one is on Roberts. Poor management of pitchers. In the course of a 162-game season, probably forgotten. But Roberts’ misuse of pitchers in the post-season kills us again and again. That’s always my concern when we reached the post-season.

  5. Sac fly with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the 10th is OK, but not great.

  6. In the Dodger lineup right now hitting at least .300: Betts, Ohtani, Freeman, Smith and Pages.

  7. OhioDodger: Thanks for your note on this being the anniversary of Lou Gehrig’s last game. It was one of the saddest days in sports history and one of the greatest farewell speeches.

  8. Joining the party late after umpiring a game…On my way home I was listening to a Giants’ talk show. Lots of callers frustrated and bemoaning how the Giants are doing. The host of the show had an interesting observation about how three “key” players whom the Giants acquired in the off-season are doing: Soler, .219, Chapman, .222; Lee, .259. Also, fans unhappy that their ace, Webb, didn’t get out of the fourth inning in route to his defeat, 4-0, to the Bosox in the first game of a 10-game road trip. The host also said that the Giants haven’t produced a home-grown talent, presumably referring to hitter, not pitchers, in 10 years.

    • I look forward to watching the condensed version of that game after Dodgers are done in Phoenix.

      • Webb reached the mid-50s in pitches in the second inning. Jon Miller, a solid announcer, continued to point out the growing pitch count.

        • Miller is outstanding, especially in contrast to the homer hacks Krukow and Kuiper.

  9. Guessing it will have to be postponed. Not sure they can deal with them with people around in harm’s way.
