I was just in a Longs Drug Store to pick up a prescription and walked past a display which offered up 3-packs of Hanes men’s classic brief underwear.
$9.59.
$9.59?!? For basic white underwear? That’s a helluva markup, considering you can buy a package of seven of the things directly from Hanes for $8.99.
Sheesh.
Where did you find a Long’s Drug Store? I thought they sold the whole thing, lock stock and barrel, to CVS about a year ago. Not an improvement, IMHO – CVS is one of those places that makes it very nearly impossible to buy anything except their house brand. Which I trust about as far as I can throw a piano upwind.
Longs is such a strong brand out here that CVS concluded it shouldn’t change the name, particularly when Walgreen’s is making inroads.
Yeah, well, if those Hanes tighty whities turn into a CVS version, let me know how they fit.
What are the prices like at the local non-insane retailers (Target, if such exists, maybe Kohl’s)?
Not bad at Target: $9.50 – $12.50 for a package of nine Hanes white briefs.
