New Dodgers thread above.
Mets at Royals, 5:00PM PT, TV: Fox
What we know is that one of these teams is going to break a really long World Series victory drought (even longer than the Dodgers’). The Royals last won in 1985 and the Mets in 1986.
Two righthanders go against one another: Matt Harvey for the Mets and Edinson Volquez for the Royals. Harvey’s made two postseason starts and been good in both (2-0, 2.84 ERA, 4 BB, 16 Ks in 12 2/3 innings). Volquez has also made three postseason starts. He lost a game in the ALDS to the Astros and split two in the ALCS with the Jays. His cumulative stats in this postseason are 1-2, 4.32 ERA, 12 BB and 15 Ks in 16 2/3 innings.
There are now three Brazilians on MLB rosters, but https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/659199568354123777
Looks like Honey fixed Volquez and he went on his merry way to start the first game of the WS.
Did Honeycutt prevent Vólquez from finding out about his father’s death?
That was at his family’s request. I am talking about the turnabout in Edinson’s career.
It was a very strange situation.
Yes, strange that we knew and he didn’t.
Again, his time with the Dodgers was minimal, so I wouldn’t draw any major conclusions from that.
Even when the Dodgers aren’t in it, it’s still worth watching as far as I’m concerned. We switched to news when it was 4-3 Mets in the 8th. I switched back a half-hour later to see if the game had ended, only to see it was in the 11th. We watched the rest. Wottagame.
Quite a first game. Over five hours? This is going to be some series.
How long can this go on? https://twitter.com/TheTweetOfGod/status/659228292352884736
i just can’t imagine the Dodgers winning this type of close, back and forth game. So tense. By the way, can we get Gordon and Zobrist on the Dodgers next year?
Great baseball.

MLBTV is blacked out after all, so I’ll just keep track on Gameday.

I still can’t work up much enthusiasm for this. I would say the Mets’ superior starting pitching makes them the favorites.
Oh, nor I, nor I. I’d like the Royals to win, I think, but that’s mostly because the Mets beat the Dodgers. You could argue that we should root for the Mets because if they win that would let the Dodgers say “It took the world champs to beat us,” but that’s silly.
I just don’t much care. I understand it’s available on MLB.com, so I’ll probably have it on the iPad next to my computer and glance at it on occasion.
Fox doesn’t reach the Southern Hemisphere? 😉
Unfortunately, it does, but I’m still in California, where we don’t have cable. We do have it in Buenos Aires but, if I were there, MLBTV wouldn’t be blacked out.
