Dodgers at Nationals, 10:35 AM PDT, TV: MASN 2, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
The Dodgers haven’t announced their starter as of 7:00 PM HST Saturday night [Update: it’ll be Ryan Yarbrough (7-6, 3.80 ERA)], while the Nats will start RHP Trevor Williams (6-9, 5.21 ERA), if, if the weather allows the game to be played. The forecast is somewhat grim: “Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2pm and 5pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 5pm.”
- 1974 Lou Brock ties and then breaks Maury Wills’s 12 year-old single season stolen base record with his 104th and 105th swipes. The Cardinal left fielder’s thievery against the Phillies doesn’t help when the Redbirds drop the Busch Stadium contest, 8-2.
- 1992 Cardinals vice chairman Fred Kuhlman tells reporters that a “security check” had revealed serious issues involving the two out-of-state investors, Vince Piazza and Vincent N. Tirendi, part of the six-man group trying to buy the Giants and move the franchise to Florida. The candid reply to the press will cost baseball more than $6 million to settle a suit that includes a letter of apology from acting Commissioner Bud Selig to Vince Piazza, whose son Mike started his major league career with the Dodgers nine days before his father’s rejection by the MLB owners.
- 2008 With a 4-2 victory over the visiting Yankees, the Angels clinch the division flag on the earliest date in the history of the American League West. The Halos, the first club to secure a postseason spot this season, have finished in first place four times in the past five seasons.

NPUT
Asterisks just beat the Padres, 12-2, meaning that San Diego cannot win the NL West. They have minimal hopes of reaching the Wild Card.
You misspelled “Trashtros” (“Asterisks” is only a nickname).
oh.
Had Kike’ known he was going to play today he would have worn his green hitting shoes.
Where was Peralta hit? No eyes or ears right now.
Left elbow, and appeared to get him pretty good.
Ouch!
Yep. Wrist area doesn’t look good.
Also, ouch.
What Dave said.
Inner arm close to elbow.
Tough RBI. Ouch!
Looks bad.
I should have noted on Friday that this has been a very dry summer in Washington. My garden really appreciated this weekend’s rain.
No day off. Night game at Chavez Ravine tomorrow against the Padres/Friars.
Yippee!
Ballgame. Saw more rain than ball this year.
Nice way to end a road trip (3-3) that started out badly.
Now on to the tennis.
Or the NFL.
Happier flight home for sure.
Woo-HOO!!!
Dodgers win!!
Ump a little squeezy with that first “ball.”
Rojas just edged his OPS over .600.
It’s tough when you don’t get on base much otherwise and don’t have any power to get a get OPS .600 off of .230 batting average. Peralta hits .272 and can just barely get above OPS .700 for the same reasons.
Yanquis walk it off against Keggers in 13.
Bah.
Taylor and Rojas have both reached the .230 (or beyond) threshold and Barnes has raised his average from .130 to .172 in about a month by going 11-for-34 (.324), including today.
Taylor has .775 OPS (coming into the game), however, given relative ability to get on base and power. Rojas barely at .600.
Keggers and Yanquis may go on forever.
Each team waa scoreless in thw 10th, scored one in the 11th and two in the 12th.
Mookie back to always taking the first pitch for a strike.
Bear down, Vesia!
Nice hustle Freddie.
Milwaukee and NYY still keeping it interesting.
Keggers and Yanquis.
A run for the Brew Crew in the top of the 11th.
And then Yanquis tie it up with, unfortunately, a hit when a sac fly would’ve sufficed.
Atlanta first in to the postseason.
Wander’s change up is a thing of beauty.
His holding baserunners not so much…
A wonder.
Nice play Freddie.
Right at him but I’ll take it.
Yanquis could win a game in which they’re being interestinged.
Suero not only called up today but put into the game.

Barnes muscle!
Sac fly. Works for me.
Sunshine in DC? Is that allowed this weekend?

Great song.
Good they stopped when they did, infield looks in good shape.
Tarp coming off.
Not too bad. Although I’m guessing it maybe won’t be the last delay for this game.
Yeah, gunna get some rain shortly, but should b able to finish the 5th.
That would be a tough way to die.
Ugh. That’s for sure.
I missed something. What’s that?
Getting trapped under the tarp. One groundscrew had slipped while they were pulling it across the diamond.
Smothering under it would be bad enough, but suppose that humongous roller went over your squishy body as they wrapped it back up!
Poor Vince Coleman.
Yep.
Delay the game with a 2-2 count on the hitter? Weird timing.
It started raining much harder and frankly going on would have been crazy at that point.
Thanks
Oh, come on. Now?
It looks like dog-walking time.
Maybe the Dodgers should be looking to get outs.
And just as I say that… rain delay.
I. Like.Rojas.
He’s been immensely valuable.
And now the red-hot Barnes comes up!
Station to station. But I’ll take it.
Need some runs here.
Let’s go Miguel.
Steady, but light rain.
Williams getting a lot of rope.
He and Jimmy Stewart.
Impressive knowledge.
Impressive movie and actor and director.
Haven’s seen it in years. Still a fine film?
I actually don’t know how well it holds up. Not my favourite Stewart/Hitchcock combo, that I can say.
Lotsa pitches for less than five innings.
Fewer.
Ambiguous in this context.
Less is degree. Fewer is number.
They should resign Heyward.
Nice to get the first 2 on.
Nice getting a leadoff walk.
Yarbrough might not get the chance for the win.
Good outing by Yarbrough, but that’s probably it for him.
Nice try CT3.
I like it.
Dang.
Raindrops!

Sam Elliott is a lucky lucky man.
Why Sam Elliott?
Who?
Need to make it through 5. So a quick DP here would be great.
Sat it out and not stopping
Another double for Freddie
Freddie, that’s not the two we expect from you.
Barnes needs to catch (ha) Willie in SB.
Ha!
Betts had Willie’s back
5mentario
Barnes says take that!
Looked good doing it
Taylor reminds all that he can play third
A little stirring of wind. The kind that anticipates rain.
Bad futuring?
I sure hope so!

I think we already knew that
And for those of us who don’t speak Spanish?
Our Dodger announcers have said multiple times that Dodger hitters can’t wait go hit against the National’s Williams because he gives up to many home runs. Do opposing teams’ hitters therefore love hitting against Lynn?
Ump can miss them for both teams.
Makeup call for the one on Muncy.
Losing Peralta wouldn’t be good.
He’s been a valuable role-plus player.
Game is free on MLB.TV. Watching on my computer.
Outman keeps this up he will get a big head ….. of hair.
Max strikes out but had a bad strike call against him for the first strike.
Swung at ball four.
Had too considering the strike called against him earlier.
Yarbrough is Dodgers’ 13th starting pitcher this season.

Gameday: “Austin Barnes singles on a soft ground ball to catcher Drew Millas”
A bunt? What happened there?
He hit a screamer 30 feet up the line. Note that this is a free MLBTV game.
Short ball
Place-hitting.
Tee-ball special.
I’ve got the Dodgers channel but I’m in the office and the TV is in the living room. By the time I got the 20 feet to the tube they’d stopped showing reruns.
Maybe stay in the living room and when something exciting happens in the office, run to the office.
Let’s score some runs here guys.
Nice sac fly. Sets up 2 more runs when Freddie doubles.
Not a sac fly.
Barnes first guy not to smack it, and still got a base hit.
Lol. He was hustling down the line nicely though.
By his standards, it was scorched.
Okay, we’ve got the lead, now hold on for five innings.
Just told my buddy that James needed to hit one out man!
Is Yarbrough the new Doug Rau?
Ask Lasorda!
And listen to the tape on the mound from the World Series game.
Every ball has been smacked
So close are we that my buddy played 3rd base coach and yelled for Freddie to hold up on the Max double.
Good call.
My buddy got great seats. 3 rows up from camera well by visitor’s dugout.
That’s neat…How’s the weather!
Cloudy with dark ones.

Mookie’s back, and so is Yarbrough! https://twitter.com/Dodgers/status/1700890806666895550?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1700890806666895550%7Ctwgr%5E5a73a8db37881cadf09baf33b3af0459cf8143d5%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.truebluela.com%2F2023%2F9%2F10%2F23866646%2Fmookie-betts-dodgers-lineup-bone-bruise-left-foot
I’m a bit surprised to see Mookie back. Thought they would wait until they got back to LA tomorrow.
Just a bruise. Must be biting at the bit after two days not playing.
‘Tis but a flesh wound! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHtywcyyno0
Ha!
Today’s game is an MLBTV freebie.
No rain where I am. Off to the park.
Keep the skies clear for the rest of us.
Ha! Clouds already gathering.
