Athletics at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: NBCSCA, SPNLA
The A’s send LHP Hogan Harris (2-5, 6.07 ERA) to the mound to face the Dodgers’ RHP Tony Gonsolin (5-4, 4.25 ERA).
- 1938 Bright yellow baseballs designed by Frederick Rah, who believes the visibility of the dandelion-hue sphere will help players avoid getting hit by a pitch, are used in the first game of a doubleheader. The one-game experiment draws mixed reactions and the Dodgers complete their sweep of the twin bill from the Cardinals, 6-2 and 9-3, using the traditional white ball in the nightcap.
- 1982 During a ceremony held in Cooperstown, NY, the United States Postal Service unveils a 20-cent stamp commemorating baseball great Jackie Robinson as part of its annual Black Heritage series. The Dodger infielder becomes the first individual baseball player to be depicted on a U.S postage stamp.
- 2002 Reds general manager Jim Bowden is fined by commissioner Bud Selig for the comments he made to reporters prior to yesterday’s game against the Dodgers comparing a baseball strike with the terrorist attacks of September 11th. Quickly realizing the use of such analogy was inappropriate and insensitive, the Cincinnati GM issues an immediate apology after the game.
- 2008 In the first game after the Manny Ramirez trade to the Dodgers, the Fenway Faithful enthusiastically welcome Jason Bay, the player replacing the Boston icon. The former Pirates outfielder doesn’t disappoint, tripling and scoring the winning run in the 12th inning of the Red Sox’s 2-1 victory over the A’s.
- 2017 The Dodgers lose to the Braves, ending their nine-game winning streak. Had they won it would have been the third time this season they’d have won ten straight. The bullpen gives up the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta.

Yippee!
Ballgame.
Dodgers win!!
Woo-HOO!!!
Dodgers with a chance to move past the +100 RD tonight. Currently at 595 scored and 494 allowed.
Kemp with almost an incredible catch of Freddie’s foul ball.
Off a lefty no less.
James Ouchman. Second night in a row with a HBP.
Usually drives in a run.
Looks like another 5 and done for Gonso.

Poor kid grabbed it out of instinct.
What happened?
Kid reached over the wall in right and grabbed Freddie’s ball when it was still in play. Was going to hit on a bounce about two feet below the top of the wall.
So, it mighta been a triple?
Hmm. I don’t think so but I guess you never know.
Hmm. I don’t think so but I guess you never know.
Right fielder was pretty much right there, so don’t think so.
So, no harm no foul (though it was fair).
Good one.
Freddie hit a ground rule double because a kid reached well over the fence to snag it after the ball bounced up half way up the wall.
Don’t they remove the offender from their seats?
Probably not a kid in this case.
He seemed so contrite, so don’t think so. Around 9-10 year old.
Rojas!!
Rojas cranks one!
Is Gonso trying to do his Lance Lynn impression?
Just win baby!
Rosario tends to get good wood when he connects.
I don’t see him as a cleanup hitter, however.
With no JD against a lefty, it’s either him or CT3, no? . (Quique did it a couple of times back in the day).
Edited
Things are going well so far tonight.
I doubt Harris is long for this game.
Why take him out?
Well, some guys do need BP.
Fillies have blown two extra-inning leads against the Fish. One of them, of course, was the responsbility of old friend Kimbrel.
Crushed+!
That’s how to turn 2.
3-0 is a good start.
Could have been more. But could have been a lot less too. So 3 is just fine.
Put the ball in play and good things can happen. Nothing good comes from striking out.
Safe!
Whatever works CT3.
It sounds as if he really scorched it.,
Ha! Slooow roller.
Steinered on a ground ball!?
Reading Gameday, I’m allowed to be facetious (Gameday’s a full-inning ahead of Steiner, only a batter or two ahead of Jarrín).
Need a big hit here from CT or James.
James got his big hit yesterday.
Like clockwork, Freddie drives him in.
Crushed!
Ok Catman get well against this team.
TrueBlue writer doubts he ever will.
He has certainly lost something.
Noticed on the replay of the dinger against Lynn that he doesn’t need to turnaround. He gives up enough of them to just know.
As soon as I hear the word “Steiner,” I switch to the Spanish-language stream.
Given last night’s blackout, I missed this inspiring moment. https://twitter.com/uprootedoakland/status/1686583094189674496?s=20
