Dodgers at Royals, 11:10 AM PDT, Tv: Bally Sports KC, SPNLA
RHP Tony Gonsolin (4-2, 3.30 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers and RHP Brady Singer (4-7, 5.88 ERA) does so for the Royals.
- 1962 Johnny Podres ties a major league mark record, striking out eight consecutive batters in LA’s 5-1 victory over Philadelphia. The 29 year-old southpaw’s streak begins with the third out in the top of the fourth frame and ends after the first out in the seventh inning of the Dodger Stadium contest.
- 1995 Dodger right-hander Hideo Nomo, who is leading the National League in strikeouts, becomes the first player from Japan to be selected for the major league All-Star game. As the starter for the Senior Circuit, the 26 year-old rookie tosses two scoreless innings in the National League’s 3-2 victory over their American League rivals at The Ballpark in Arlington.
- 2019 The Dodgers overcome a 4-3 deficit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning when the Diamondbacks’ bullpen walks five consecutive batters, including Cody Bellinger’s base-on-balls forcing in the winning run. The last time the Chavez Ravine club got a walk-off win with a walk was when Bellinger drew the fourth consecutive free pass issued by the Royals relievers, plating the winning run in a 5-4 extra-inning victory in 2017.

NPUT
On the positive side, the Pads have lost yet again. Angles have taken a 1-0 over Snakes on a four-baser by Miguel Trucha (perhaps his first non-K in the entire series).
I predict Soto will become a Yankee.
Anyone know why Barnes is playing today? I presume Smith is injured. Assuming the approximate same number of ABs, Barnes would have to hit about .300 in the second half of the season to reach .200 for the year.
Starting catchers rarely play a day game after a night game.
True, but it it is odd to see Barnes start two games in a three-game series.. Still, I motivated him to start the second half of his season with a hit.
Smith started both Friday and Saturday,
Thanks for the correction.
Rest day for Will.
Barnes is playing because Dodgers shouldn”t need much offense to beat the lowly Royals 🙂
Also on the positive side, Peralta is now hitting .286. He hit .136 in April, .295 in May and .365 in June.
I’m going to the game tomorrow. They’d better be better.
Plus, Barnes.
Worst game of the year besides the recent 15-0 drubbing by the Giants? At least that was against a decent team. The Royals are the second-worst team in MLB.
But playing the game of their lives. That’s baseball. Their pitcher was so good today. Pinpoint. And
ours… weren’t.
This is apparently bullpen-meltdown day.
And it continues.
Embarrassing.
Pitchers getting squeezed too.
Doesn’t explain the offense.
Inexplicable.
The offense is easy to sum up.
This is pretty lame.
Not good, guys. Across the board.
Gonso has no command today.
Third straight bad outing.
Hurting for starting pitching.
They’ve not been aggressive enough.
But ARE they? Hunting?
Quite a few teams want Giolito from White Sox. Dodgers have a good relationship with them and Giolito is a Southern California guy.
Possibly the best available. He’d only be a rental, so price not so high.
Outman hammered that but Pratto makes the play… at least we scored one.
Why couldn’t he fall on his Pratt..oh?
Gonsolin shaky again, thus far. Has allowed 12 earned runs in his last 12 2/3 innings.
