Game 102, 2023

Reds at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Ohio, SPNLA

LHP Brandon Williamson (2-2, 4.60 ERA) pitches for the Reds and RHP Bobby Miller (6-1, 4.28 ERA) does the same for the Dodgers.

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1991 Expos right-hander Dennis Martinez pitches a perfect game, defeating Los Angeles 2-0 at Dodger Stadium. Ron Hassey becomes the first backstop to ever catch two perfect games, as he also was behind the plate on May 15, 1981 when Indian hurler Len Barker faced 27 batters, beating the Blue Jays, 3-0.
  • 2017 Alex Wood won his twelfth game against just one loss, going seven innings while giving up eight hits and four runs to the Giants. The Dodgers came from behind with four runs in the seventh and won 6-4.

Lineups when available.

  1. I totally thought JD would get a K there. He missed too many pitches right down the pike.

  2. So far the Dodgers have gotten:
    Kiké,
    Rosario,
    Kelly and Lynn

Hoping for at least one more move since each trade has gotten slightly bigger returns than the one before. Ready for the finishing touch on or before Tuesday.

  3. Well, I wanted the Dodgers to acquire Lynn a few years ago. This is kind of like wishing for a train set for Christmas when you are 13 and now you get it when you are 16. Now you want a car..

  4. Outman should be in there in CF. Kike in RF, and Mook at 2b. That would be my lineup.

  5. Not loving the Kiké era so far. Dodgers have yet to win since they started wheeling and dealing. (SSS alert)

  6. Kenley swats Gnats 1-2-3 on nine pitches. Rainiers stop Snakes 5-2, but Pads are blanking Rangers 7-0 in ninth.

  7. Dodgers interested in Verlander? Apparently that’s the report in the LA Times

  8. Not that era is the be all + end all of pitching stats – but it’s not encouraging when each reliever that comes in has a higher era than the one before (and higher than the starter who has a 4.37 era).

  9. Jokes on the Reds for putting in a pinch runner and then getting a HBP and a walk.

  10. Dodgers looking a bit like they have a limited supply of luster tonight.

However, since we are only a couple of games removed from a 9th inning comeback – I won’t completely count them out yet.

    • I’m delayed in my responses because I’m listening to the gameday audio which runs about 5 or 6 pitches behind real time play.

  11. Miller pitched a bit better tonight I guess? I’m joining the program already in progress.

  12. Not like the star studded reinforcements that we are used to, but these guys should be an improvement on the margin. Hopefully that is all we need.

  13. Down by three in the ninth, with the bases loaded, the Angles pinch-hit for Ohtani? Did they change their minds about trading him?

  14. Not to be missed during trade deadline talk is Outman’s July line:
    .323 .440 .500 .940

    • Trayce wasn’t going to have a spot in the Dodgers’ outfield anytime soon, so maybe this is a good deal for him. Kelly and Lynn are known MLB quantities. The two youngsters? Who can tell?

      • I like getting Joe Kelly back. Lance Lynn? Maybe he’ll have a renaissance moment.

      • I have sympathy for Trayce, as he’s had his moments, but he’s just too injury-prone. Nastrini is an above-average prospect, while Lynn and Kelly are on the downside of their careers.
