The most wonderful time of the year

If you’re a baseball fan, that is. It’s the last week of the season and some teams are fighting for the wild card spot, some teams are on the brink of calamity, some teams are limping into the playoffs after clinching a spot, and others are hiccuping after winning 12 of their last 14.

The Tampa Bay Rays are 2 games behind the Red Sox for the American League wild card, and the Red Sox have to play their ancient enemy the Yankees this weekend. Today’s Sox-Yankees game was rained out, so tomorrow they’ll play a doubleheader on Sunday. Tampa Bay is down 3-0 to the Blue Jays in the fourth inning of their game. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 2 games behind the Braves for the National League wild card, and the Braves are winning this afternoon. The Cardinals game has just begun, and there’s no score in the bottom of the first in that game against their ancient enemy the Cubs.

Oh yeah, if you’re a college football fan there’s about a zillion games this weekend too.

Fun!

  1. I’m just hoping that my Blue Jays can, at least, knock the Rays out of the Wild Card race. That’s my only consolation.

At least the Illinois Fighting Illini are 3-0 for the season. Plus I’m paying attention to preseason hockey (go Blackhawks!).
