I like the title “Fimbul Winter.” I also read the Donner post with interest. The things that the Gold Rush people did and put up with never cease to amaze me.
Have you seen that monument at Emigrant Gap? Looking at its height and at the tree stumps 12-15 feet high really give you a sense of how deep that snow was.
