  1. This is the second one I’ve had. The first was three years ago. The prep is far worse than the procedure itself, which is done under anesthesia.
In theory I think they’re supposed to be done every five years after you hit 50. I stalled till I was 57 before I had the first one.

  2. Oh, hon …
Could I just say that my first colonoscopy was done w/o any anesthesia (I had issues in my mid-20s).
Also, I have endured the barium enema (a’la _Apollo 13) w/o meds.
I hate you have to go through this, but I am on your (back) side.
Take care. Have a chuckle. Hoping for the best. *mwah*

  3. My sympathies for your discomfort. Been there, done that, for hours.
I’ve had 3 colonoscopies since I turned 50; the first required the doctor to snip some polyps, the last check was so clean that I was given 10 years until the next one. This is comforting because the prep is just _nasty_: I’ve never been able to finish the entire gallon of that glop without puking. On the other hand, that’s never mattered because what I can get down manages to clean me out completely.

  4. Hey, Bruce, they’ve improved it by giving the patient a little packet of lemon flavoring to add to the powder before mixing. Its taste isn’t so bad with that stuff; the general feeling of being awash and bloated remains, however.
