Pre-Turkey Day Panic

1955 Westinghouse roaster-oven

We’ve cooked our turkey in one of those since the mid-1950s; I never realized how much wattage gets eaten before we even start on the contents! 1335 watts? Good thing we only use it twice a year!

Oh, for crying out loud. I got an e-mail from Amazon yesterday offering me a Charlotte Church greatest hits compilation. What is she, sixteen? With maybe three albums to her credit in three years?

When cookies (computer variety) go bad: scroll down to the final paragraphs to learn how TiVo sometimes gets it wrong. It ain’t just TiVo; how many screwy Amazon recommendations have you gotten?

  1. Hey, what’s up with that severe weather alert in Honolulu (on your front page)? My friend is going back on Monday, and I figure I’d give him the heads up (not sure what Island he lives on).

  2. You could probably get a few nice bucks for that turker cooker on eBay. Is it a deep fryer of some kind?
Never quite saw something like that.
Not that there’s anything wrong with it…
    Oh, by the way-
Have a Great Thanksgiving to you and your family!!

  3. pretty fancy turkey thingy there.
Amazon’s been pretty accurate with me, in fact sometimes it just scares me. Like, my very first purchase was a Kerry Livgren CD — he was in Kansas (the band) before he went solo — and next time i went there sure enough it recommended a Kansas CD i’d never heard of. how did it know i would be overjoyed to find new Kansas? this was in my early internet days and it rather freaked me out.
