  1. What I want to know is this: since we oppose the ICC and don’t really seem to want to recognize its legitimacy, what happens when the EU wants an American tried in the ICC?

  2. The stated reason, Monique, is a concern that American soldiers and diplomatic personnel might be subject to “frivolous” legal proceedings brought for purely political reasons. I suspect there’s a purely nationalist underpinning to it, having to do with “sovereignty.” The recent attempts to indict Israel’s Sharon and Kissinger play on those feelings.
