Mets at Dodgers, 1:10 Pm PDT, TV: SNY, SPNLA
RHP Trevor Williams (1-3, 3.588 ERA) takes the hill for the Mets and LHP Julio Urías (3-5, 2.89 ERA) does the same for the Dodgers. In his last start Williams got through the fifth inning for the first time in any of his four starts this season and got the win, giving up just four hits and no runs. Urías has not gotten the run support this year that he did last season and he’s given up half as many home runs (9) in 2022 in just one third as many games (10) as he did last year (32 games, 19 HRs).
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1977 On Old Timers’ Day, the Dodgers retire former manager Walter Alston’s uniform number 24. ‘Smokey’ compiles a 2040-1613 (.558) record along with seven pennants that results in four World Championships during his 23 years in the dugout.

Yordan Alvarez signs a 6 year $115M contract for 2023-2028.
He’s a DH and, at the time the Dodgers let him go, it seemed unlikely there’d be a place for him.
He never played for the Dodgers, so there was no way to judge. We’ve had a surfeit of outfielders for the past four or five years anyway.
I think there was consensus he’d always be a defensive liability.
The Anaheim Angles have just lost their 12th straight.
OK, tonight I’m rooting for the Mutts.
And so far it’s working.
Hit it out, Mookie
When you play your 31st game in 30 days, why not play extra innings?
Ha! And a big greeting to WD!
Thanks Scoop. I led a mini-leadership retreat for students this weekend – including a 4 hour hike yesterday.
Get us the walk off, okay?
From a 4-hour hike to a 4-hour game.
And the Olympian does it!
WBB: You didn’t second-guess.
DP. Please.
Or a K.
When Taylor puts the ball into play, he is hitting .417.
I’d at least like to see him cut down on his swing with 2 strikes and concentrate on making contact instead of hitting the ball a mile.
Yes, but he seems unwilling to do that. Who is the batting coach?
What has happened to Buehler and Urias? I shudder to think where we’d be without Gonsolin and Anderson.
Greatnotatall
A 2-5 homestand. Now off to the Windy City to play the White Sox for three, starting Tuesday, and then to San Francisco for three.
So, there’ll be some blackouts.
Roberts should not have challenged the catchers interference.
Trea asked him to.
I did not know that. I am surprised.
We lost this game three different times.
Oh, Will, that was nearly a foot outside.
Frustration.
Rats!!! Very disappointing.
RATS!!!!
I’d take a passed ball right about… now.
How ‘ bout a WP?
Not sure that helps or not.
Agreed.
Exactly. Trea is a better hitter.
Too tense.
On one hand Trea is a very hot hitter. On the other winning run now at 2.
We’re hurting now. Had Mookie advanced the runner to third, the infield would have been in and Freddie’s grounder would have been a hit.
Up to Trea.
That really hurts.
That was ball four, Mookie.
Over to Freddie.
Over to Trea.
Another smoked foul.
Let’s go Mookie, clapclap, clapclapclap.
I feel good with the top of the order coming up. Call me a Pollyanna.
Mookie is due.
Mookie is Duekee.
Ha. Made me laugh.
With Lux on second, Mookie will lead off the tenth.
RALLY TIME!!! Clap…Clap
We cannot allow that second run to score.
I absolutely loathe that ghost runner on second. Can we please get rid of that rule?
Agreed!
I think it’s gone next season.
I didn’t expect it to return this season.
Why Kimbrel in the 10th?
Your foresight is disturbing.
Low pitch count, he’s not pitched for a few days, but he grooved one.
But he hasn’t pitched more than one inning all season. Bad managing by Roberts, me thinks.
He pitched a strong ninth.
But he has not come out for a second inning this season. It’s a different mindset.
Because he hasn’t done it before? Pretty harsh take.
I couldn’t watch the bottom of the 9th. I followed it on Gameday.
Too agonizing?
Yes, and painful, I expected.
Hudson in the 10th, I hope.
Good baseball game!
Truly great AB by CT3.
(And I was going to complain about why Alvarez was even on the team.)
Just keep the line moving, Gavin.
Well, I’ll be!
Wah-Hoo.
Eddy, Eddy!
TIE GAME!!!
Okay Alvarez. Deep breath!
That may have been our missed opportunity.
Not the only one today.
Right. Including that Alvarez hit that was called foul.
TV angle is not good.
Oh man. Really? Foul?
They’ve had a bunch of those today.
It will be a HR or a K for Taylor now.
So close to a HR.
Argh.
Bad futuring…
Ump! Not helping…
That third run we allowed in the 8th looks so huge.
That’s a start, Will.
OK, that’s a start.
Good start!
Kimbrel did well!
Kimbrel now? Odd call.
In keeping with Roberts’s use of pitchers yesterday and today. Perhaps McKinstry is warming up.
Day off tomorrow
Got it.
Not looking good for the home team.
Geeze, Diaz. Get a grip!
He may be throwing at us.
Seemed like it with that second inside pitch.
Hudson’s ERA is 1.96 and he didn’t pitch last night. Graterol did and was ineffective.
So what gives?
Doc said on Friday that he might be out for a couple of days after back to back 4 out outing.
Graterol’s ERA is 4.81.
Graterol is not a high leverage option.
He used to be!
Yep. But not after 3 straight outings giving up runs.
We’d better get some offense going this inning. I’m not holding my breath, though.
And now back to the top of the order.
PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!
Disaster.
Bullpen meltdown.
Graterol has given up 5 runs in the last two relief appearances.
You have to wonder what Roberts is thinking sometimes. Graterol got lit up yesterday.
Make that 6.
Julio deserved better. See “no run support” above.
Frustrating game.
Lack of offense is the main culprit.
Ooph. Not good.
Robert’s and his use of pitchers: too many brain freezes every year. Sorry.
Since he’s been hired, best record of any manager in baseball.
Mierda.
25 pitches for Graterol
I don’t like to second-guess, but…
And Graterol is still in there?
Pull him!
Alonso homered off Graterol last night.
I’m a little surprised Brewster’s staying in.
I thought the same thing, even before Lindor’s hit. Why not Hudson?
Not the right call, in hindsight.
Or foresight.
Nice job by Brewster to get Marte.
And then…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFyr49TwuiI
Need some insurance runs.
Please.
My daughter went to the A’s game yesterday vs. the Red Sox in Oakland. She loves baseball. (I wonder where that came from?) The attendance was 14,796. The A’s haven’t reached 18,000 once this year. The ticket prices have skyrocketed. Boston won, 8-0, yesterday and is on the verge of sweeping the three-game series.
Oakland gonna fool around and lose the team to Las Vegas.
Yep.
Hit the bat first I think.
Ouch… Nimmo plunked in the hand.
Pardon my one-note samba: Mookie, Freddie and Turner last night, 4-14; everybody else 2-for-19. We need others to resume hitting, Smith in particular.
Nice job by Phillips after his emergency outing last night.
K. Whew!!
Get Alonso please.
Rewarded with a hook.
Mookie, Freddie and Turner: 4-for-9, everybody else 2-for-12
Mookie just missed it.
Kershaw’s rehab start at Rancho Cucamonga today: 5 innings, 2 hits, 1 run (solo HR), 6 Ks, 1 BB. No mention of pitches thrown. Left with a 2-1 lead; RC lost.
Bellinger is such a superb CF.
Nimmo sees a lot of pitches.
Angels just dropped their 11th in a row, losing to the Phils, 9-7, on a three-run homer by Stott in the bottom of the 9th with two outs.
Big skid.
And a flat tire.
Taylor on pace to strike out about 200 times.
I guess that is just who he is. I can live with it if he keeps his OPS at .800 or better. Right now at .792.
I am glad we re-signed him. He’s versatile and valuable. I just wish he could put the ball in play more often.
Yep. I agree.
The Beerboys’ bullpen has imploded in the tenth, and Pads now lead 6-3.
Nice quiet inning, four-inning pitch count is now at reasonable level.
Trea is making himself important. Will be interesting if he re-signs with the Dodgers.
Who is his agent? If it’s Boras, he will wait until after the season ends, I expect.
It’s Boras, so there’ll be a bidding war.
Okay Will. Time to get back on the boards here!
Rats.
Time to place your Betts
Nice K, Julito!
WBBsAs must have stayed out of the kitchen
HR on this home stand: Them 11, Us 9.
That needs to be fixed today.
Julito, I step out to the kitchen for a moment and this is what you do?
ugh 2-1
I predict a RBI for Alvarez
In his next at bat
Double trouble.
Yes!
Excellent future person, but I don’t like the pitch count.
I’m tired of walks to weak-hitting catchers for the Mutts.
Number nine hitter.
Absolutely. Walking the No. 9 hitter after getting ahead of him 1-2.
No bueno.
Okay Julio bear down now. K and DP.
Or vice-versa. Or TP.
Just don’t surrender the lead.
Julio needs to not walk people.
Willy in a bit of a funk.
Trea starts a new streak!
Trea!!!!!
Kershaw scheduled to make a rehab assignment today for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga.
Can’t help but be concerned about Buehler.
Apparently his velocity and spin rate was up yesterday so that was encouraging.
True, but he had no command whatsoever.
