Dodgers at Nationals, 1:05 PM PDT, TV: MASN, SPNLA
LHP Julio Urías (3-3, 2.63 ERA) takes the mound for the Dodgers as they attempt to sweep the three-game series from the Nats, who’ll counter with RHP Erick Fedde (2-3, 4.08 ERA). Urías won his last start, giving up just two hits and no runs in five innings. Fedde last won on May 3; he’s had two no-decisions and a loss since.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1919 Casey Stengel, traded by the Dodgers in the off-season to the Pirates, calls time, steps out of the batter’s box to give the razzing Ebbets Field fans the ‘bird’. The Pittsburgh right fielder doffs his hat, allowing a sparrow to fly out, much to the amazement and amusement of the fans.
- 2002 With four homers on Thursday (5/23), one on Friday (5/24), and two more on Saturday (5/25), Shawn Green becomes the first major leaguer to hit seven round-trippers in three games. The Dodger outfielder’s nine big flies in a week also breaks a National League record, established by Ralph Kiner with eight and tied by Ted Kluszewski and Nate Colbert.
- 2002 Getting his 3,509th K, Diamondback southpaw Randy Johnson passes Walter Johnson to become seventh on the all-time career strikeout list. After fanning Shawn Green in the first to catch the ‘Big Train’, Dodger outfielder Brian Jordan swings and misses a 2-2 pitch in the second inning to become the ‘Big Unit’s’ historic victim.

Pederson is mashing…
Or, he’s BALCOing. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fd7c46a56803267e869a22322228154f377faecfd868a152d736e75fc1beae57.png
So every time someone on the Giants does something good, it’s all because of BALCO ad Infinitum?
Bonds last played in 2007. I believe that one Giant minor leaguer has been implicated in steroid/BALCO/flax seed oil issues since then. Have there been others?
Tradition is important in baseball, and that’s a franchise tradition.
Here is one definition of “tradition,” and there are many similar ones:
“A tradition is a custom or belief that is passed down through the generations or that is done time after time or year after year. An example of a tradition is eating turkey on Thanksgiving or putting up a tree on Christmas.” I don’t think that BALCO and the Giants can be described as a tradition.
When a group of steadily declining thirty-somethings suddenly experience a sustained rejuvenation…

Thanks, Brewers.
Excellent news.
Gracias cerveceros.
First time we’ve been shut out this season.
Mookie was missed.
0 for 9 RISP, 9 LOB. Had our chances.
Tough loss. Disappointing effort from the offense. Go Brewers.
Soto fails to misjudge this time.
Ball died at the wall… Good effort, Will. Not our day.
Wasn’t meant to be today, I guess.
C’mon Willy.
Smith is a clutch hitter.
The Bellinger enigma continues.
Cody just missed it – again.
MLB is freezing up.
Working fine here.
Do we score or end the game with one final frustration?
One more shot.
Doc pushing his luck with Almonte.
In a stretch of 31 games in 30 days, bullpen management is no simple matter.
Okey-dokey.
0-for-7 with RISP, including twice failing with a runner on second and none out.
They seem tired today.
Whatever magic Rios had appears to have evaporated.
The JT enigma continues.
He’s been very productive this month.
Huh? JT hitting .198 in the last 28 days, .205 in the last14, .200 in the last 7.
XBH, high RBI.
I should have learned years ago not to counter whatever you post. It’s fruitless.
Last 15 games, OPS of .841.
Last 15 games, OPS of .841.
Well, shoot. Okay, Rios.
Oh, JT. You got one to hit there…
Freddie is due.
Put him on. Up to JT.
Trea gets a single, finally!
The strike zone keeps rising.
Sky high.
Strike zone inflation…
Total crap.
Nice job by Almonte pitching out of it.
Nice recovery by Almonte.
Milwaukee, still batting, has scored twice in the top of the 7th and now leads San Diego, 2-1.
Inning now over.
My crabbiness is increasing.
As is the Dodger hitters lethargy.
The Muncy enigma continues.
RALLY TIME!! Clap….Clap
That was some duel between Urias and Soto.
Got him!
Oops.
Cruz, retire already! You’re an old guy!
I’m guessing this is his last year.
Dumb baserunning by Hanser.
Muncy gets rung up on a pitch in his eyes.
When it’s not going well…
Darin Sutton (Don’s son) is doing the play-by-play.
I wondered whose voice that was. I knew it wasn’t Joe, but…
Is Darin a Nats’ announcer or is he part of an MLB team?
The Angles fired him, for some reason. I notice, by the way, that it’s spelled “Daron.”
Thanks.
JT still has reflexes.
From Tyler Kenner’s tribute to Roger Angell:
it is always gratifying to find yourself in agreement with Mr Angell.
Will certainly be nice when it goes away. I would be kind of OK with it starting in the 13th inning.
It should never return. We need more games like https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-07-04-sp-544-story.html
In the first inning, we will get a matchup of Freddie facing Fedde.
Surprised Belli is not in the lineup.
He may still be feeling under the weather, as was the case yesterday.
I did not know he was not feeling well. I thought he was just getting a Dave rest day.
Mookie’s getting today off.
I was expecting that. They talked about it last night on the post game show.
