Pirates at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTPIT
I’m beginning to think that Rich Hill is a phantom. His blisters preclude him from starting again today, so the Dodgers ask rookie RHP Ross Stripling (3-3, 3.79 ERA) to step in. He’ll face the Pirates’ Ivan Nova (8-6, 4.83 ERA), who will be making his second start for them after coming over from the Yankees at the trade deadline. His first one was successful: he went seven innings and gave up just three runs in a win over the Reds last Saturday.
Josh Reddick hasn’t gotten off to a great start with the Dodgers, but he’s 5-for-13 with two homers against Nova in his career.
Lineup when available:
10 LOB for LA. 2 LOB for Pit.
Need one more hit. Plus a home run.
Nope.
It was worth a thought though. 😉
Really like Kiké’s knee socks.
Need 2 more hits plus a home run.
This game has gone so smoothly since I turned it on in the bottom of the third. It really feels like the Dodgers should be the ones leading 5-1.
It was one of those odd games. Stripling pitched pretty well, while Nova got scorched but lucky (though he did have good defense behind him).
Meanwhile, in SF, Ted Bundy leaves the game after holding the Gnats to a single run in 5-2/3.
Cool play by Turner.
Apparently Pit saw the score in the Bal-SF game and wanted to match it.
Hard to believe Cutch failed to catch one.
So close.
So I have a question about ARod. Were the Yanks planning on this for a while? Seems strange to announce and have your last day in the middle of August without there being some planning. I realize he has not been playing at all well. However, isn’t he only a few HRs short of 700. Is it that they don’t want to pay him any bonuses?
What strikes me as odd is that it would surely be good for ticket sales if he was only four away if he were hitting. But he hasn’t been. He’s barely been playing as a DH and he hasn’t been in the field at all,
Dodgers keep hitting the ball hard with nothing to show for it.
Maybe they need to hit it softer then.
Nice catch by Reddick. Saved a run.
Ok Ross. Help yourself here.
Lightening strikes and all that? Be great if Kendrick can drive in Joc again.
Stripling looked solid that inning.
Good thing SF is losing tonight.
That was close. They got him on the overslide.
Is Pittsburg our new St. Louis?
Looks like that is true.
What have I missed? Seems like Stripling is having a hard go of it by the looks of the linescore.
Terrific AB by Joc, fouling off several pitches before doubling hard to left.
Great catch by McCutchen, unfortunately. Grandal really tagged that ball.
Stripling isn’t missing many bats so far.
Not much luck, from what I could tell (I tuned in a bit late).
Stripling did really well after the first. The score does not do his pitching justice.
So long, A-Rod…https://twitter.com/TheOnion/status/764236307052756992
