Giants at Dodgers 1:10 PM PDT, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), NBCSBA, SPNLA
RHP Logan Webb (5-6, 3.15 ERA) goes for the Giants and RHP Tony Gonsolin (4-1, 1.93 ERA) goes for the Dodgers.
Here’s a charming profile of Miguel Vargas and his father Lazaro, a two-time baseball Olympic Gold Medalist for Cuba.
- 1938 After accepting GM Larry MacPhail’s offer to coach first base, Babe Ruth wears a Dodger uniform for the first time as a coach and takes batting practice with the team. The ‘Bambino’ will quit at the end of the season, ending his ties with major league baseball.
- 1940 Dodger Ducky Medwick, acquired in a trade less than a week ago, is beaned by former Cardinal teammate Bob Bowman and needs to be carried off the field on a stretcher. Brooklyn president Lee MacPhail accuses the St. Louis pitcher of deliberately hitting Medwick in the head because the two had quarreled in a hotel elevator prior to the game.
- 1996 Brant Brown hits the first three home runs of his career on the same day. The 25 year-old rookie goes deep as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning off Chan Ho Park in a 9-6 loss to the Dodgers in the opener of a Wrigley Field twin bill, but his two additional round-trippers contribute to Chicago’s 7-4 victory in the nightcap.
- 2014 With the only batter reaching base as a result of a throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez in the seventh inning, Clayton Kershaw no-hit the Rockies at Dodger Stadium, striking out a career-high 15 batters. The left-hander’s teammate Josh Beckett also threw a no-hitter 24 days ago, making it the shortest span between no-hitters by a team since the Reds’ Johnny Vander Meer accomplished it in consecutive starts, four days apart, in 1938.

Willie Davis reach 2,000 career hits on June 19, 1973. He accomplished the feat at Dodger Stadium with a two-run home run off Hall of Famer Phil Niekro in the Dodgers’ 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
Also June 19 in Dodgers history — but during the 1952 season and while playing for Brooklyn — Carl Erskine threw the first of two career no-hitters.
Abysmal
Agree but cannot like.
On the bright side, the Spiders lead the Snakes 7-1 in the fourth.
Giving up a hit to Schitt is a warning sign.
Miércoles!
Pfffft.
How many times did they leave the bases loaded today? At least two by my count.
Steiner now says the Gnats have a bases-loaded rally in the bottom of the ninth.
However miserable a game may be, it can only be worse with Steiner.
The wheels are coming off this team right now.
The old story about a team that wins is not as good as they looked in that win and the team that loses is not as bad as they looked during that loss(es)
I still expect Dodgers to win the division, but they’ve got work to do. Meanwhile, Spiders now lead Snakes 11-1 in the fourth.
Steiner can’t tell Victor González from Caleb Ferguson
Given the performances of Gonzo, Miller, the bullpen against the Giants–Sheehan looking even better.
Gonso’s totally lost it.
Gonzo going gonzo?
When you give up a double to Yaz, Gonso, you’re faltering.
Runner hesitated and was nailed by Mookie.
You can’t stop Peralta, nor contain him.
I hope Doc doesn’t get discouraged and doesn’t sacrifice bunt again.
Heyward flops.
Without the good results Fosbury would get with his flop
Joe mocking the Dodgers.
Scoop missing the fun
Time for Outman top make up for his first at bat
It’s not out, man, but it’ll do for now.
Joc scoring showing off his speed and his ugly slide
The Giants have now scored the last 19 runs in this series. I am taking a break. Good luck, everybody.
Steiner just said the Dodgers got a gift when Gonso hit Joc.
Verdugo, JT and Kiké each had two hits today in Boston’s 6-2 win over the Yankees.
Would you reverse the trade?
The Verdugo trade? No. Kiké and JT left as free agents.
JD has filled the JT spot well. Quique had no position with the Dodgers, and has been mediocre with the Sawx (actually, he’s been terrible at SS with 13 errors already).
Smith is the only Dodger with more walks than strikeouts, but that gap has narrowed considerably lately…Meanwhile, the Dodgers have gone 14 consecutive innings without scoring.
Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone Boy has a record of starting strong and then surrendering a big inning.
I hope that you are right.
Good start. Leave the bases loaded. Sheesh.
With a strikeout looking.
Nice efficient first for Gonso.
The radio feed is four pitches behind Gameday.

Is it safe to come out from behind the couch yet?
You can only lose one game a day.
Uhh, thanks.
