Dodgers at Marlins, 4:10 PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FS-F
The Dodgers come back from their mid-season break with RHP Brandon McCarthy (6-3, 3.12 ERA) on the Miami mound against the Marlins’ RHP Dan Straily (7-4, 3.31 ERA).
McCarthy came off the disabled list and pitched six innings of two-run ball against the Royals. Straily is coming off a career-high 8 1/3-inning performance against the Giants in which he gave up only four hits and one run.
The social whirl: Kiké Hernandez got engaged over the All Star break.

This date in Dodgers’ history:
- 1968 In the nightcap of a twin bill, Don Wilson strikes out eighteen batters in a nine-inning game to tie a major league record shared by Bob Feller (Indians, 1938) and Sandy Koufax (Dodgers, 1959 and 1962). The Astros right-hander fans future Hall of Famer Johnny Bench for the last out of his 6-1 victory over the Reds on a wind-swept night at Crosley Field.

The Dodger right-hander, who was booed by the home crowd in his last outing, was perfect before walking Tommy Gregg on a 3-2 pitch after getting the first out in the seventh inning.
- 2005 Defeating their historical arch rivals, the Giants become the first team to win 10,000 games as a franchise by edging the Dodgers in LA, 4-3. The Giants, who started as the New York Gothams in 1899, have posted a 10,000-8,511 record during the club’s 123 seasons in the National League.

NPUT
It is hard to believe that this is the same team that struggled to score runs and hovered around the .500 mark the first month of the year.
Here’s hoping for a road trip with continued bottom of the 9th innings!
More interesting numbers. The Dodgers’ bullpen usage is down from last year, believe it or not.
Tough last year for starters to even get 5 in. This year not so much, with Wood, Hill and MacCarthy together getting into the 7th fairly often.
Ahem.

REALLY like that stat!
Remember when it was basically over when they trailed after 7?
I believe tonight was at least the 2nd time they won when trailing with one strike left.
Snakes and Rox lose; the former are now 8-1/2 games behind, the latter 10-1/2.
We win!
Safe travels, Dave.
My brother and sister-in-law were there 4 years ago and came back with the best product Made in China . . . my youngest niece, Sydney.
Ha – I will bring different things back. But thanks. I will miss this wonderful little community.
We’ll hold down the fort, never fear.
My next series should be mid Aug vs Detroit.
Are you allowed to get email?
See if you can find Dodgers fans while you are at it.
Will do!
More send then receive but I might check about once a week.
I was listening to MLB Audio, which lags behind real time.
I was soo tempted to sneak here for a look at the future, but I wanted to experience it “live.”
Now Ace Jr. goes manana!
We win!
Unstoppable!
Never say never with this team. Wow.
Sure seems magical!
Woo-HOO!!!!
I hope to miss about two dozen of these when I’m gone!
From your keyboard . . .
Have a great time, WinnipegDave. Among the countless interesting things to see and do, try to go to the Shanghai Acrobatic Circus (not its accurate name.) It is remarkable.
Wow, nice comeback
He says, without benefit of an exclamation point
Nor hint of understatement.
And now they have to face Kenley.
Puig! What a way to start the 2nd half and to send me away for 5 weeks.
Ha! Just got back from 6 away.
I’ll have to talk to myself a lot.
Puig!!!!
This team. Wow.
Wow!
At dinner and just happened to check Gameday.
!!!!!
Puig!
Puig!!!!!
Yasiel!
Not over yet!
Hanging out in Vancouver airport. Heading to China for 5 weeks. I won’t be able to check in here too much/not at all until I get back.
The PRC blocks my blog? I don’t know whether to be upset or proud!
I don’t know if they do or not. But part of a cultural exchange program team and we have agreed to not be online except for sending back an email or 3.
Heh. I don’t really think they care about me.
I envy you the trip, though. Enjoy!
Grizzly Adams in to pitch for the Dodgers.
Dodgers have hit too many hard balls directly into the defense.
Seager’s ball hit so hard it might have gone to the wall.
When McCarthy was pitching and Grandal wanted a pitch up and away he should have put his glove down and in.
Gordon, stop it.
Dang. Stanton at third, one out. These Marlin’s are pesky!
The Fish have a good lineup.
3-2. Good thing we got that second homer.
Ouch. Ichiro got hammered in the thigh. I sure McCarthy feels bad about that.
Dead leg for a little while.
Well, Puig recovered the lead pretty quickly.
Forsythe still not swinging at the first pitch no matter how good it looks on TV.
Grandal stopped on his way to third.
Slow runner making a pit stop between bases combined with a good throw by Ozuna and play at home not close.
Did someone miss a sign? Joc going back to third as if thinking catcher was faking a throw to second when Grandal tries to steal.
Slow Train Grandal.
3rd base coach has been more conservative in the past
Dodgers lucky to get a run.
Hit the ball pretty solidly, though, so maybe a bit unlucky not to score more.
True, Joc missed a HR by inches to start the inning and Taylor had a solid single to left.
Grandal had a single and Puig put good wood on the ball as well
Only weak wood was McCarthy’s foul bunt.
Maybe we could say he had good wood on it but just didn’t get it fair.
Gracias Fish.
Marlins Park with visitors on first base side, like DS.
Joc looks as if he’s starting the second half with an even worse haircut.
He has worn that thing before.
Joc with the almost jack.
Stanton’s no Chris Taylor.
Boy, Stanton butchered that one.
Nice pitch out of the zone seeking the swing and miss.
Glad McCarthy got his warm up pitches completed.
Quite a catch by an inexperienced LF.
Ball seeking out the weak link for first two batters.
First three.
First four.
Are you back from Gyroland?
Got back Tuesday and game is in my time zone!
Nice to have the game start at 7:10 our time. Welcome back Bob. Hope you had a great time.
A great circular route.
Circus!
If he hadn’t caught it, Dee might have had an inside-the-parker.
Since June 28, Logan has been 5th in BA, 2nd in OBP and 11th in OPS in MLB.
Here is a very long, interesting and sad story from SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) about the life and death of the aforementioned Don Wilson:

He was a banker, so presumably a Republican.
