Libby guilty on four of five counts.
The jury rejected Mr. Libby?s claims of memory lapses as it convicted him of obstruction of justice, giving false statements to the F.B.I. and perjuring himself, charges embodied in four of the five counts of the indictment.
The best place for analysis is Firedoglake, as it has been throughout this investigation and trial. I’d imagine the servers there are getting hammered, so have patience.
Expect a pardon to be issued on a Friday afternoon shortly before or after sentencing, which is scheduled for June 5.
I wonder if there will be a pardon. After all, didn’t Gerald Ford lose the White House to Jimmy Carter partly because of his pardon of Dick? Sure, Chimpy isn’t running in 2008, but the GOP probably would like to keep that as its home address for a few more years.
I don’t think your logic holds up. Clinton pardoned a whole bunch of people on his way out the door; I don’t recall Gore or Kerry being tarnished with those actions in 2000 or 2004.
I also think there’s a lot of looking at hole cards at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. and at the VP’s residence this afternoon, because if Libby flips to get a reduced sentence there could be serious damage to Bush/Cheney’s “legacy.”
True, true…
A pardon? I hope not.
Mark Steyn said it best yesterday, that this affair was all about “an anti-war deputy secretary of an anti-war department leaking to an anti-war reporter the name of an anti-war analyst who got her anti-war husband a job with an anti-war agency is supposedly an elaborate ?conspiracy? by Cheney, Rove and the other warmongers.”
And gosh, whaddya know? The anti-war husband’s analysis was absolutely correct, and Cheney, Rove et. al. have been proven to be the stupidest bastards the US government has had the misfortune to be afflicted with since the Harding administration.
