Lost, Season 2, “Dave”

Ok, they’ve succeeded in puzzling the hell out of me. I no longer know what’s real and what’s not. I was comfortable with Hurley hallucinating, but that last scene at the institution just floored me.
And I’d swear that the teaser for this episode showed Hurley’s foot slipping on that edge, so why…(possible spoiler below)

wasn’t that scene in the episode? Or did the teaser just show feet slipping off the cliff, rather than Hurley himself?

  1. I’m starting to feel jerked around by the writers and I think that Henry is looking more and more reptilian. I think they’re on a space ship.

  2. The foot-slipping thing was there, but it was nothing more than a shot of Hurley’s feet on the precipice, trying to get his balance. Taken out of context in the ad, it looked like someone slipping off the cliff edge.

  3. Even the show’s creators are frequently miffed at how the show is marketed, and how promos are assembled. Take one shot of someone with a gun here, and another shot of someone else falling, and pow, you’ve got a “big twist” that never happened.
I liked the episode. I think the whole point, in a way, was to put to rest the theory that the whole show is one big “Identity” hallucination (or “St. Elsewhere,” if you prefer). When Dave was making his case to Hurley about how everything after the mental institution was imagined, I suspected more than a few fans were howling in disbelief.
Not much in the way of island mysteries save for the few things Henry said (about “him,” about the button, about being able to see the island). This season wraps up in May, though, so I expect more big episodes.
As usual, my wife and I blogged “Dave” in detail.

  4. I’m starting to get worried this is all going to turn out like Dallas or St. Elsewhere with a twist of Millennium (movie, 1989 – not the series that O’Quinn was in – but I suppose that could be applied) :-/
Oh, boy and if it does? I’m going to have such a tantrum…
