For the Bushes

I wonder how much Jeb(!) really wanted to run. I wonder whether he just felt that he should run, as he was regarded in the family as “the smart one.” He spent most of his time after he left office as Florida’s Governor working in the private sector, a lot of it for Wall Street banks like the failed Lehman Brothers. In fact, from 2007 when he was term-limited out of the Governorship until 2014, he was paid some $29 million by various corporate boards and banks.

As his Dad once famously said trying to describe his values to the employees of Liberty Insurance while campaigning for re-election in 1992, “Remember Lincoln, going to his knees in times of trial and the Civil War and all that stuff. You can’t be. And we’re blessed. So don’t feel sorry for – don’t cry for me, Argentina.”

Okay. I won’t waste much sympathy on Jeb(!) then. I’m pretty sure he’ll survive this humiliation. If nothing else, he’s got a lot of that 29 million bucks to fall back on.
