Virtually every Republican Presidential office-seeker has said he’d blow up the nuclear deal the Obama Administration just reached with Iran if he were elected. Scott Walker was first out of the gate, talking about things he knows little about again.

None of these guys seems to recognize that the deal was between something called the P5+1 and Iran. The P5+1 is the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (US, France, UK, Russia, China) plus Germany (because Germany has been the principal supplier of nuclear industry parts to Iran). Apparently they all think the US can simply abrogate the agreement on its end and reconstitute negotiations with Iran, and none of the other partners will object. Nor, for that matter, will Iran.

What fantasy land do these people inhabit?

It’s more likely that if the US did do that the other countries would throw their hands up in the air and eliminate whatever sanctions remain on Iran. After all, if the US proves so untrustworthy, why would anyone want to deal with us again on such a sensitive subject?
