This is different

Bruce Springsteen, on tour in New Zealand, plays home country star Lorde’s hit “Royals.”

He’s been doing covers on this tour, but they’re covers with backstories.

He kicked off his Perth show with a hellacious take on AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell.” He treated Sydney to a rendition of INXS’ “Don’t Change.” And at his final Australian gig in Brisbane with a surprising version of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive.”

Bon Scott, AC/DC’s lead singer on that track, was from Fremantle, Perth’s port. INXS’s members were originally from Sydney. Brisbane was home to the Bee Gees until they moved back to England in 1967.

I like that idea. Sing a song made famous by someone from the town you’re performing in. Instant good karma.
