Today’s Bowl games

First off today we have Arizona of the Pac-12 playing against Nevada of the Mountain West in something called the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque. At least it’s a fairly short trip for each school. The ESPN preview includes this:

As bad as Nevada’s defense is, Arizona’s might be worse.

And this:

Both defensive units now face the daunting task of trying not to get embarrassed.

Well now. If you like your football high-scoring, this might be your game. It’s at 1:00PM EST on ESPN.

The second game of the day is the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, matching the Toledo Rockets of the Mid-American Conference against Utah State of the Western Athletic Conference. ESPN’s preview of this game says:

Looking to win seven straight in a season for the first time since 1965, the Aggies have outscored their last six opponents 269-108.

Yowsers! And then:

The Rockets . . . have given up an average of 30.4 points over their last seven games and rank 108th in the FBS in total defense at 464.1 yards per game.

Hmmm. On paper, then, Utah State should outscore the Rockets. It starts at 4:30PM EST, also on ESPN.
