Who is John Galt?

Why, Mitt Romney! I’ll bet you thought it was Paul Ryan, since he’s the one who used to publicly acknowledge his admiration for Ayn Rand. Well, a video has surfaced in which Mitt tells us just how much disdain he has for those of us who weren’t born wealthy.

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

That’s quite a statement, isn’t it? That nearly half the American population is a bunch of lazy moochers (paging Ms. Rand! Paging Ms. Rand!) who don’t want to work yet expect their needs for food and housing to be assured by the government.

Fascinating. That’s almost a classic definition of socialism. I’m unaware of any great groundswell of support for that philosophy in this country. Other than Bernie Sanders, the last Socialist who had a real shot at political power in this country was probably Eugene Debs, and he lived nearly a hundred years ago.

Mitt lives in his own world, and he’s obviously only happy when he’s surrounded by others who come from that same world. This video shows him with his metaphorical hair down, and it’s not a pretty sight.

  1. This video, more than any of the other stuff out there about him has infuriated me. I’m pretty sure that if he’s elected, he’s going to shovel out aprons and pearls to women, set up backdoor entrances for people of color and delegate those who don’t work to boxcars again. Hooray for republican progress! There’s nothing like going hungry to put us all in our places!
