Fear and Trepidation in the laundry room

We’ve got company coming in a couple of weeks, and we noticed that a couple of rubber-backed throw rugs need to be washed. So, nervously, I put them into the washing machine this afternoon. I don’t think I’ll press my luck and put them in the dryer, however; if they come out intact from the washer I’ll let ’em hang-dry on the line outside.

If I owned a carpet beater I might have tried that, but it doesn’t get mud stains out, I suspect.

  1. We dry them, but we buy them cheap because we have cats. One of my cats is 22-23 years old and often barfs, for no reason we can tell, and the bathroom seems to be her place to do it. We buy rugs that can be washed and dried.

  2. One came out just fine; the other lost a lot of rubber backing. I may have to run a wash cycle with nothing in the machine just to ensure I get all that crud out.
