The wrong team won

Aw, rats. Packers, what was wrong with you today? You didn’t look anything like the team you’d been all season long. One of the radio broadcasters said by his count your receivers dropped eight passes today. You don’t win when your main weapons perform like that.

So now it’s Giants vs. 49ers in the NFC Championship next weekend. From a brief check it looks like those two teams have only met once before in the game, back in the 1990-1991 season. The Giants won and went on to win the Super Bowl that year when the Buffalo Bills’ kicker Scott Norwood missed a last-second field goal, pushing it wide right. That was the game which featured Whitney Houston’s national anthem and live pictures at halftime of American military personnel in Saudi Arabia awaiting orders to attack Iraq in the Gulf War.

  1. As a Chicago Bears fan, I’m glad to have seen the Packers lose. The true shocker was to see the Saints lose to the 49ers, and the way that the 49ers won that game.

  2. I like Brees and the Saints, but I’ve been a Niners fan since the 1980s, so I was both pleased and astonished at their win. I was equally astonished at how poorly the Packers played today.
