Social conservatives set up for fall again?

News Item: Battle for social conservatives heats up as Santorum wins key endorsement

I’m afraid Messrs. Perkins, Dobson, Bauer, and Wildmon are going to be sadly disappointed at how little help their support is going to be to Santorum. I also think that weakness is going to be one more piece of evidence that the national Republican party loves to pander to those people and their supporters during campaigns but then mostly ignores them after elections. You’d think they’d learn.

Similarly, the working-class Republican voters never seem to learn that the party they vote for is far more interested in catering to the needs of the top 1% of the population than it is to people of their economic class.

That’s not to say Democratic voters aren’t frequently disappointed in their candidates as well. Many of them may just be better at rationalizing. “Yes, Obama caved on X, but he had to do that in order to get Y done.” We’ll see in the turnout numbers on November 6 how persuasive that rationalization is.
