You know, if you’re a Democratic political consultant or guru to a Democrat running for President, a headline like this has to make you smile: “News is Good for Santorum and Bad for Gingrich in New Polls.”

You can’t tell me any rational Democratic Presidential candidate wouldn’t be delighted to have either of those two as an opponent in a general election for all the marbles in November 2012. Think of it: Gingrich has about as much baggage as any candidate could have from his time in the US House, and Santorum’s right-wing lunacy on social issues and complete lack of economic or foreign policy record from his time in the Senate make each of them unpalatable to most sensible voters in this country.
