I wandered into Office Depot this afternoon and found a Brother MFC-J615W machine on sale for $39.99. Since I’ve been using a Canon BJC-240 which is so old it still uses a parallel port (the old 25-pin plug) and thus required a USB adapter to make it work with newer machines and it’s increasingly hard to find ink for the thing, I bought the Brother machine.

So far so good. It runs off my Netgear router with an existing Ethernet cable, too. I think I’ve got a spare USB male-to-male cable around somewhere, but damned if I could find it easily when I started looking.
