Care to take a walk, sir?

I’m not exactly bitter about the Cardinals beating the Rangers since neither one is my team, but all throughout the series I kept saying “You can’t keep walking guys like this” to Rangers pitchers on my TV screen. Somebody at Sports Illustrated figured it out:

St. Louis wound up scoring 34 runs in the Series, two of them after batters were hit by pitches and 12 more after walks. The 41 total walks issued by the Texas pitching staff broke the World Series record of 40, set by the Florida Marlins in 1997.

Frankie Frisch, when broadcasting for the NY Giants in the 1950s, used to say “Oh, those bases on balls.” He was proven right in this series.
