NFL, Week One

Ordinarily I don’t care much about pro football until it’s time for the Super Bowl, but I was curious about how the season would start given the summer-long lockout. What did we learn from yesterday’s games?

  • Peyton Manning is even more important to the Indianapolis Colts than I thought he was. They took a whipping from the Houston Texans, of all teams.
  • Cam Newton has a good chance of being a successful NFL quarterback. He threw for 422 yards and had his team at the Cardinals’ 6-yard line when he ran out of steam at the end of the game.
  • The Ravens really wanted revenge on the Steelers for several heart-wrenching losses over the last few years.

Here’s a full recap from Sports Illustrated.

  1. I liked how my favorite team (Chicago Bears) played this last week. Of course, we’ll see how the season will go after the next two weeks (at New Orleans and home vs Green Bay). But I like what I saw this week.
