And if you believe that . . .

Senator Mitch McConnell, expressing optimism a debt ceiling deal can be reached before Tuesday:

“We need to be in a position where all of us in the leadership can come back here and say that we think we reached a framework of an agreement that we can recommend to our members,” he said. “So that’s what I’m working on and I’m not interested in scoring any political points. I’m interested in getting an outcome for the American people. And the only way that can be done is with the president of the United States.” (My emphasis)

I’ll only say that Mitch McConnell has never taken a step in his public life that didn’t involve trying to score political points.

Remember this from Oct. 25, 2010?

In an interview with the National Journal’s Major Garrett, McConnell candidly acknowledged that he feels his “single most important” job is to defeat President Obama in 2012:

MCCONNELL: We need to be honest with the public. This election is about them, not us. And we need to treat this election as the first step in retaking the government. We need to say to everyone on Election Day, “Those of you who helped make this a good day, you need to go out and help us finish the job.”

NATIONAL JOURNAL: What’s the job?

MCCONNELL: The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.

If you think that goal has changed, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

  1. Bridge? Are there any left standing since Congress decided we’re too poor a country to make any repairs?

  2. It’s gotten so that I have to leave the room every time my husband turns on the news. Otherwise, I yell at the set for all the inanities the Republics are pouring out. And my blood pressure must jump at least 20 points. Boner is bad enough, but McConnell!!! I seethe whenever he appears!!

Sometimes I wonder if I’m going to make it to the election. I may explode first. Grrrrr!!
