Dinner bread

This is a wonderful-tasting and easy flatbread.

Bread

1 cup water

3 cups bread flour
1 Tbsp sugar
1/3 cup chopped yellow onion
1 1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp yeast or
2 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast

Topping:

olive oil
crushed rosemary
Coarse salt

Use the dough cycle. When done, immediately place the dough ball on a large rectangular baking sheet that’s been brushed with oil. Flatten the dough into an inch-thick oval. Cover in plastic wrap and let rise till it doubles in size (40 minutes or so). When ready, pre-heat oven to 400°. Slash top of dough in a design of your choice, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with rosemary. Bake for 25 minutes or till brown. When done, sprinkle with salt.

If you do it right it comes out looking like this:

  1. That sounds tasty.

Does it bake tall enough that it could be used to make sandwiches? We just got a panini press and are discovering the world of crispy sandwiches filled with all kinds of yummy things. Now all we need are breads that are good to eat as well. (Wonder if this means we need to get a bread maker? Hmmm…..)
