Things Democrats Need to Realize

From AlterNet:

. . . the long arc of American history suggests that the forces of progressive and liberal thought have expanded rights and liberties for the country’s citizens, as well as provided a more certain future in the pursuit of the common good than those alternatives offered by the Right.

For contemporary conservatives the solution to this dilemma is a simple one. When losing simply rewrite the history. Change the narrative. Then disseminate this alternate version of reality through the right-wing media and the schools.

This is the foundation of the Big Lie. The right-wing echo chamber offers a different version of the facts. In turn, their audience internalizes a partisan and ideologically skewed version of reality.

One of the problems the other side (my side) has is that it’s almost impossible to argue with people who refuse to recognize generally-accepted facts as truth. It’s infuriating.

We need to develop a strategy that involves more than just bashing people in the head with the facts; when the facts are summarily dismissed as “more liberal lies” it does little good. We can’t just throw our hands in the air and walk away, either.

  1. You are absolutely right, but I still do not know what to do. I know I am annoying to those who refuse to understand or hear or believe, but I keep trying cause I agree we cannot just throw our hands in the air. It is hard to not give up and harder still to maintain some semblance of calmness and coolness. I basically find myself wanting to tie them down and keep them tied down til they listen………..;)
