The reason we had a new roof installed was that we discovered some stains on the living room ceiling. We initially thought they were caused by water leaks, but as it turns out they were in fact caused by the felt material attached to the plywood the shakes are nailed to. That material is impregnated with an anti-leaking fluid, apparently, and over time (a long time) it can seep through to the ceilings below.
We had to have the ceilings repainted (and the popcorn ceiling scraped and re-applied) once the new roof was installed. That was this morning’s project.

So, your anti-leaking fluid is leaking onto the ceiling, yes?
Was. Was. It’s actually something which is supposed to add water-resistant capability over the plywood and under the shingles/shakes.
Everytime I see the words popcorn ceiling I smile remembering that as a kid I thought this idea was awesome. Then I found out that no actual popcorn was involved.
“No corn kernels were harmed in the making of this ceiling.”
