Pettiness in Wisconsin

I swear, Republicans are like little children.

Staff members of the 14 Wisconsin Senate Democrats who skipped town 11 days ago rather than vote on an anti-union bill will now have to get their pay authorized by the Republican leader.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said Monday that he would take over the duties of reviewing and approving Democratic staff members’ timesheets.

The Senate’s organizational committee run by Republicans approved the change giving Fitzgerald the authority rather than the Democratic senators.

Fitzgerald is also not allowing Democratic lawmakers or their staff members to use Capitol copiers, saying there has been some “highly unusual usage” of the machines in recent days.

Fitzgerald is also no longer allowing senators’ paychecks to be directly deposited. Instead, they are being held at the Capitol.

Once, America had grownups in charge of its governments. No more.

  1. If the Egyptian people can bring down a dictator after 30 years of police state rule, why can?t state employee unions bring down this Governor or at least start a Governor recall effort. This is the United States of America, re-learn how to do it yourself.

Poll: Americans favor union bargaining rights, By Judy Keen and Dennis Cauchon, USA TODAYUpdated 2/23/2011 2:00:45 PM, MADISON, Wis. ?
Americans strongly oppose laws taking away the collective bargaining power of public employee unions, according to a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll. The poll found 61% would oppose a law in their state similar to such a proposal in Wisconsin, compared with 33% who would favor such a law.

  2. Wisconsin has a law that states an elected official must be in office a year before a recall can be mounted against him or her; Walker’s only been there about two months.
There are eight Republican Senators who have served that long or longer, however, and there’s a nascent drive to do just that to them.

  3. Imagine that these legislators will gladly accept the salary checks for the work they fled Wisconsin to avoid doing. That’s simple fraud — and it carries a statutory penalty.

  4. They’d tell you they’ve been working. Meeting among themselves, appearing on television to explain their side of the issue, even conferring via telephone with some of their legislative colleagues on the other side of the aisle and speaking directly to Governor damned-fool himself.
