Conventional wisdom had it that the Democrats were fighting over protection for federal workers in their objections to the Homeland Security legislative details; apparently they had a point.
Is this an indication of knowing where one’s bread is buttered, or merely an attempt to buy influence? Corporate money flows tilted heavily towards the Republican party over the past 10 years.
I don’t want to argue the merits/demerits of whether Islam is inherently militaristic, but I do wonder about the rigor of the argument which says it is. We see quotes from the conservatives saying “[there is] the obligation imposed by the Koran to wage holy war, or jihad, against the ‘infidels.’ “, but none of those folks explain why there has been no such holy war since Ferdinand and Isabella conquered Granada in 1492. (Given what else occurred in that year, I wonder what the contemporaneous equivalents of Time and Newsweek said in their annual “Year in Review” issues?)

I’d like to read your blog, but running Mozilla 1.2 on this 800X600 screen, I can’t move the Archives block.
Um. Why would you want to move it? I have it from a reliable source that the pages are legible in Mozilla 1.0 and NS 7.
I’d like to add a couple of comments here. First, I run Opera 6.05 (and screen size of 1280×1024 — big tube for old eyes! 🙂 and it renders mostly fine. There is a small problem with the rendering of the CSS code for the calendar. The “Sat” column is outside the left navbar box. It might be a fontsize problem. (I haven’t looked at the code.) I’ve also checked it with IE 6.0 and that works too.
My only criticism is that the links are rendered in a slightly different font from the regular text. I can still find the links, but they aren’t well delineated.
It’s only a quibble, not a big point.
I have noticed some strangeness in a couple of other blogs where the links don’t in Opera. That is just weird. But this one works just fine. 🙂
i have the same thing with the links — i use NS7 or Moz on Linux, and i can barely make out what’s a link. i’d suggest a different color, or an underline, or a different b/g color?
