Dodgers at Royals, 1:10 PM PDT, TV: Fox
The Dodgers activated LHP Julio Urías from the 15-day injured list and optioned LHP Justin Bruihl.
— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) July 1, 2023
The visiting Dodgers send LHP Julio Uriás (5-4, 4.39 ERA) to the mound for his first start since he went on the IL May 18 with a hamstring injury. He’ll face the Royals’ LHP Daniel Lynch (1-3, 3.96 ERA).
- 1968 Bob Gibson’s scoreless inning streak ends abruptly at 47 with a questionable call when the official scorer rules a wild pitch, and not a passed ball, allowed Len Gabrielson to score in the first inning of the Cardinals’ 5-1 victory over the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. Without the hometown decision, the Redbird right-hander, who will blank San Francisco in his next start, would have been within three innings of breaking the mark of 58 scoreless frames established in June by Don Drysdale, tonight’s losing pitcher.
- 2011 Dee Gordon, in the seventh inning of a 5-0 inter-league victory over the Angels in Anaheim, steals second and third base, and then completes the stolen base cycle by swiping home. The Dodger shortstop becomes the 40th major leaguer to accomplish the trifecta in the same frame.
Lineups when available.

NPUT
This is quite a production. The Red Sox put together a video on the occasion of Kenley’s 400th save.
https://fb.watch/lwCJxRfuEN/
Kenley getting his 400th save with Boston feels about as appropriate as Freddie getting 300 HR and 2000th hit with LA.
Happy Canadia Day!
Thanks!
Yonny hosed. This ump sucks.
Yay Willy.
Down by two MUCH better than down by five.
Against the Scrub Jays, leading by two with an 0-2 count on Vladdy, Kenley gives up a base hit but tying run gets thrown out at the plate. A save!
Not much of one, but “they all look the same in the box score.”
Old friend Verdugo gets the assist.
By the way, Len Gabrielson, now 83, led the Dodgers in home runs in pitcher-dominated 1968 with 10, the only time in his eight-year career in which he reached double figures. His career total was 37.
Like his father his father (who played five games for the Fillies in 1939), Gabrielson was Oakland-born.
Very disappointing. Sigh.
Go Angels!
¡Miércoles!
Mierda.
Ah well. Get ‘em tomorrow Dodgers.
They listened to me and threw out a would-be base stealer!
Two of them tonight.
Gameday continues to be a total mess.
Rats!! That was our shot.
Angles have taken a 1-0 lead over the Pit Vipers in the fourth.
Freddie – up to you now.
Sigh
Soooo close
Barlow looks like Bickford 2.0.
KC has a habit of losing. Take advantage Dodgers.
Do it Mookie. Do it
That’s a start. Nice hit Outie.
3 run HR?
Now is the time Dodgers!
Error, steal, steal, sac fly. Very frustrating run scored.
Dodgers should be taking notes.
We need runs!
What’s the record for most run scoring SF in one game?
My slow pitch team had three in one inning.
So only one more than the Royals had in one inning.
In theory, you could have an infinite number of sac flies in an inning.
Explain. I am curios and don’t feel like looking it up.
Dropped fly balls still count as sac flies if a run scores. https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1mpk8a/three_sac_flies_in_one_inning/
Thanks. I did not know that.
And he scores… sigh.
Maybe don’t give up so many steals Dodgers.
Or maybe don’t drop easy flips at 1B.
That got him to first but the steals got him to third.
Where’s a cop when you need one?
Hey Bums. Saw where you where not going to LADodgerTalk anymore. Tired of being a feeder of Vaal?
Had to look up Vaal. Vapor?
Timmons is Vaal and the posters are Vaal feeders. His blog reminds me of the Star Trek Original Episode, “The Apple”.
Too much silly politics for me
Yep.
Hey, the Dodgers lead the league! Sadly, it’s in stolen bases surrendered, with 103.
We are terrible!
Make that 104.
Don’t fall down now, Blue!
Another wasted opportunity.
Three ground balls.
I think jet lag is hitting us today.
So DeLuca is 1 fro 1 with a walk, and you pinch hit for him.
Bick 2 clean.

Nice inning by Bick.
Nice play by Yonny there.
C’mon Bick…
We’ve got this. Go Dodgers…
The ever-confusing ridiculous balk call.
You’ve got to be kidding. Good grief ump. Outman screwed.
Julio and Max need to skip the buffet.
Gonna be a bullpen game for both teams.
Their guy has thrown as many pitches as Julito.
Exactly.

Better for them to put Kersh on the IL thru the AS break. We need him more down the road than we do now.
Because of the delay it’s Mariners vs. Rays on Fox for me. I’m relegated to Steiner and Monday on the radio.
Our condolences. It is available on MLBTV (in addition to the on-air broadcast).
Big inning for Urias.
Bottom of the order acquitted themselves well.
Still in it. Woot.
Sac fly by the Mook!
Nice, Hernandez!
Outstanding AB by Yonny!
Ump gave him one.
Time to get some back.
How lucky can the Royals be with these soft fly balls? That’s either three or four!
Pecked to death by ducks.
Poor Julio. So unlucky.
They keep looking out to me.
Very barely safe, I fear.
Yeah. I saw that, too, in slo-mo.
Let’s get a DP now, Julio.
Ugly start.
An inauspicious beginning.
Wow. What a lineup. Top 4 better get it done tonight.

Any word on first pitch timing?
I’m excited to see Julio again!
If it stops raining, in KC, perhaps…
Mutts have swatted the Gnats 4-1.
After clubbing the Reds12-5, the Paddies have now won three of their last ten.
Meanwhile, in NYC, Descalafani has had his gopher ball working and the Mutts lead 4-0 in the fourth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqSBQFJRKq8
Unless Gibson was working on a steak of not allowing an earned run, rather than a streak of scoreless innings, the latter would have ended regardless of how the run scored, or am I missing something?
If that version of events is accurate, then WP or PB made no difference; the run scored either way. Ergo you’re correct.
