Game 82, 2023

Dodgers at Royals, 1:10 PM PDT, TV: Fox

The visiting Dodgers send LHP Julio Uriás (5-4, 4.39 ERA) to the mound for his first start since he went on the IL May 18 with a hamstring injury. He’ll face the Royals’ LHP Daniel Lynch (1-3, 3.96 ERA).

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1968 Bob Gibson’s scoreless inning streak ends abruptly at 47 with a questionable call when the official scorer rules a wild pitch, and not a passed ball, allowed Len Gabrielson to score in the first inning of the Cardinals’ 5-1 victory over the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. Without the hometown decision, the Redbird right-hander, who will blank San Francisco in his next start, would have been within three innings of breaking the mark of 58 scoreless frames established in June by Don Drysdale, tonight’s losing pitcher.
  • 2011 Dee Gordon, in the seventh inning of a 5-0 inter-league victory over the Angels in Anaheim, steals second and third base, and then completes the stolen base cycle by swiping home. The Dodger shortstop becomes the 40th major leaguer to accomplish the trifecta in the same frame.

Lineups when available.

  1. Against the Scrub Jays, leading by two with an 0-2 count on Vladdy, Kenley gives up a base hit but tying run gets thrown out at the plate. A save!

  2. By the way, Len Gabrielson, now 83, led the Dodgers in home runs in pitcher-dominated 1968 with 10, the only time in his eight-year career in which he reached double figures. His career total was 37.

    • Like his father his father (who played five games for the Fillies in 1939), Gabrielson was Oakland-born.

    • Better for them to put Kersh on the IL thru the AS break. We need him more down the road than we do now.

    • Our condolences. It is available on MLBTV (in addition to the on-air broadcast).

  3. How lucky can the Royals be with these soft fly balls? That’s either three or four!

  4. Unless Gibson was working on a steak of not allowing an earned run, rather than a streak of scoreless innings, the latter would have ended regardless of how the run scored, or am I missing something?
