Dodgers at Giants, 12:45PM PT, TV: SPNLA, NBCS-BA
After a 5-2, 3.39 ERA season last season in 77 MLB innings lefthanded youngster Julio Urias makes his first appearance of the year for the Dodgers. He’s pitched 14 innings at AAA Oklahoma City this year with no decisions and a 1.93 ERA.
Urias will face YALHP Matt Moore of the Giants. Moore is 1-3 with a 5.87 ERA this year but 5-3 with a 3.38 ERA in eight starts at AT&T Park for his career. In his last start against the Dodgers on Aug. 25 of 2016 he no-hit them for 8 2/3 innings until Corey Seager broke it up. That was the same day news of the A.J. Ellis trade broke.
Lineup when available.

NPUT
Here’s an amusing article about father-son combinations in baseball leading up to Clay and Cody Bellinger.
That was the first inning in four days that was largely tension-free.
They were given gifts, but they took advantage of them. That is a nice change.
A loss today would have brutal.
Through the first 36 innings of this series, the Dodger bats reminded me of the movie Groundhog Day. The top of the 10th today reminded me of the final scenes.
Lets repeat tomorrow.
Lets repeat tomorrow.
Good split, considering the kind of losses they incurred here.
“Ryu”, Kershaw, Wood, and Urias had awesome starts.
Don’t forget Ryu!
Edit on the way.
Starters allowed 3 earned runs in 24 innings.
Go back to Mac’s start and it’s 5 runs in 31 innings or ERA 1.45 for the five starters average about 6.2 innings per outing
Woo-HOO!!!!
We win!
Appropriately to the Birthday Boy!
This would be the nice time KJ gets the win, vs. after a blown save.
I want to count my chickens now, given that they could fly the coop. A split in SF is normally a good thing for us.
Don’t count before they are Hatchered.
Comment of the day.
Ha!
Nice stat I hadn’t known… https://twitter.com/extrabaggs/status/857722951109562369
Both he and his mom probably know.
Stripling swings a bat like me!
Got a lot of wood on that one!
I’m just talking about the similarity of the swing, not the contact!
You close your eyes as well?
Yes. And flail.
He hit that ball pretty well.
And better than me.
Could this lead even become Hatcher-proof?
We may find out, no?
Huzzah!
Conga line!
JT!
Hold the presses — Dodgers taking advantage of gifts!
It seems like forever since they scored in two different innings within the same game!
Our tenth run of the series!
But I believe the first time they scored in more than one inning.
You got your earlier wish!
Plus a bonus run.
Nice having Chase on third for that one.
Such a smart player.
Everyone acknowledges his benefit to the clubhouse.
Oral sure is letting everybody know he didn’t know the rule.
Monday immediately said Utley was right to go when he did.
I’ve liked Mo since the flag play.
I met him in ’82 on autograph day and thanked him for the HR vs. the Expos. ‘My pleasure,’ she said.
Oh pitchers.
Instead of scoring on Toles hit? Chase has to be one of the best ever base runners.
That’s on Woody.
Again.
In slow pitch once, I scored on a sac fly to the catcher.
Ha!
Mo immediately clarifying why Chase was correct on the tag.
Utley chased in the run!
If relay had been low to the infield Grandal would have been out at 2nd base when Utley got held, Monday says. Yasmani rounded the bag and couldn’t have gotten back without the high throw.
By now all Dodgers should realize that the runner will be held at third
Toles!
Hatch will need a cushion.
Agon dashed off to the dugout
I joke and can’t out run him.
Dodgers are going to dazzle the Giants with foot speed on the base paths
How do they mess this up?
Luckily don’t — at least not completely . . . they have at least one run.
What an incredible rally!
But anyway — if they can get a run — it still counts!
Utley’s back
Chutley gets a rip – now on a hitting streak.
Good news bad news: AGon got a walk. AGon’s the runner.
Remember when he was leading the NL in steals?
Remember when this series was considered part of a stretch where the Dodgers could/should fatten up on “weaker teams”?
(From the Department of the Obvious:)
If the Dodger bats don’t do anything, this is just prolonging the inevitable . . . and depleting the bullpen.
So great to see him pay attention to the runner.
Get the K, KJ!
Quick inning and we might have seen Kenley go two.
Yeah, but he got squoze early.
Kenley had Arroyo rung up, but didn’t get the call.
But finally got him.
Ump is killing me (and the Dodgers).
He had Arroyo completely rung up, but then had to throw several more pitches.
Do we see Kenley?
Yes!
Your son!
I’m there. Just waiting for practice to end at 5:30.
But thanks! 🙂
Another terrible strike 3 call, this one on JT.
Ump in a hurry to ring up Justin.
He’s been in a hurry to ring up Dodgers all day.
Phew.
The Busted Poseur GIDPs!
Avilan to Posey is scary, but I guess Hatch would be even more so.
Well gotta go pick up my son from Ultimate practice. Hopefully the Dodgers find a way to win this one!
Ok Toles, don’t be a tool.
Maybe he could pretend it is his birthday too.
We can still win it for Fields – but it won’t be the same as when he had only thrown 2 pitches.
Everything inside off the plate and then called strike outside. Welcome to the Bigs, Cody.
Need a 2 out rbi here.
Scotty needs to earn his keep here. If he gets a pitch.
SVS robbed by that 3rd strike call.
Got a break on that SB.
I feel the need. The need for speed.
Let’s get the win for Fields!
Dodgers the victim – and seemingly rarely the producer – of 2 out rbi’s.
Wheels coming off in Colorado for the Rockies. 10 run inning by Washington makes it 14-2.
10 run inning – so far, that is.
Up to 11 runs (15-2) with a runner on 2nd – now with 2 outs.
And now 3 outs.
I’d settle for 10 runs in a series, at this point.
That would be really funny if it wasn’t soo sad . . . and true!
Wow. Had 11 last night and 15 the night before.
Gameday says that Julio intentionally walked Posey, but I think it was Doc.
Rats. Monday: “breaking ball right down the middle” to Arroyo.
Hersh called it a high quality pitch.
2-1, 2-1, 4-3, now 1-0. Come on offense!
If only the Dodgers’ runs were listed first all four times in that list!
Julio flashing some leather as well.
Does Urias have an amazing pickoff move or is it just not recognized as a balk?
Bite your tongue! (Has undergone a lot of review by the opposition, as you can well imagine).
It was a legit question, as I don’t have eyes on it – and wouldn’t likely know even if I did. I just heard some impartial sports broadcasters mention it.
But I will certainly bite my tongue when he pitches if it means successful pickoffs!
I would imagine that the umps have also analyzed it to death by now.
Dodgers with youngest pitcher and youngest position player in the MLB on the field.
Julio must like having a major league infield behind him.
Now if only they’d hit like major leaguers.
Average, unweighted OPS+ of those playing the infield today for the Dodgers is 150.
But what have they done for me today? 🙂
Looking too much like yesterday’s game (and the game before that and the game before that) for me. Too tense!
Besides producing 100% of today’s scoring you mean! 🙂
Remember when Seager was struggling defensively (admittedly mostly throws to 1st)?
It appears the rust from missing a bunch of ST is over.
I think he is pretty much holding the team together single handedly at the moment
Birthday catch!
Ditto.
Davis’ spanish pronunciation comes from the Vin school.
Let’s go Urias. Time to stay – and shine brilliantly – in the Majors.
We got this today.
Based on win probability?
Based on pure, unadulterated gut feeling! 🙂
No adult supervision?
I can phone my mother if you would like 🙂
Birthday boy!
Quique, Seager, Turner, Puig, Taylor, Barnes, SVS, Cody.
I think it is pretty much the best lineup we have available.
