Athletics at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), NBCSCA, SPNLA
Oakland hasn’t yet named its starter, while the Dodgers hand the ball to the newly-acquired RHP Lance Lynn (6-9, 6.47 ERA).
Update: LHP Ken Waldichuk (2-6, 6.38 ERA) will start for the A’s.
- 1906 After pitching 10 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, Harry McIntire yields a single to Pirates second baseman Claude Ritchey. The Dodgers and McIntire lose the game in the 13th on an unearned run, 1-0.
- 1924 Dazzy Vance strikes out seven consecutive batters to establish a major league record when the Brooklyn Robins defeat the Cubs at Ebbets Field, 4-0. The future Hall of Famer, who will compile a 28-6 record for the Brooks this season, will lead the National League in strikeouts with 262.
- 1957 Gil Hodges, in a 12-3 win over the Cubs, hits his 13th and last career grand slam in Brooklyn Dodger history. The first baseman’s bases-loaded shot off Dick Littlefield establishes a new National League record, previously shared by Rogers Hornsby and Ralph Kiner.
- 2011 After popping out in a pinch-hitting appearance, Craig Counsell remains without a hit in his last 45 at-bats, tying the longest single-season hitless streak by a position player in history, established by Brooklyn backstop Bill Bergen in 1909. The major league record is 0-for-70, established in 1970 by Bob Buhl, a pitcher who toiled with the Braves and Cubs that season. Counsell and Bergen’s record for position players has since been surpassed by the Orioles’ Chris Davis, who got it up to 54 straight hitless ABs in 2019 before getting a hit on April 13.
- 2015 Clayton Kershaw strikes out Mike Trout looking with a wicked curveball, marking the first time that reigning MVPs have faced one another in a major league game. The interleague contest between the two LA teams ends with the Dodgers southpaw keeping the Angels outfielder 0-for-3 while hurling eight innings in the team’s 3-1 victory over the Halos at Chavez Ravine.

Late breaking news:
The Dodgers traded LHP Justin Bruihl to the Colorado Rockies for cash considerations.

I don’t understand that move at all. The Dodgers are in need of starting pitchers, not cash.
NPUT
Freddie is a fine ballplayer.
Lynn happy to be here, I think.
If he is happy (and pitching well), then I’m happy too.
Kike’ hit that double against a righty. Does it count toward the Dodgers being stronger against lefties?
Dodgers need to sweep the A’s in order to finish with a meager 5-4 winning home stand.
Good work Mr Lynn.
Something to build on.
AS ADVERTISED==7 innings, efficient, souvenirs tossed into the Pavilions.
Nice Max!
Woo-HOO!!!
Dodgers win!!
OK, future people, get it done!
Come on Brusdar. Let’s keep this at only 2 used from the pen tonight.
C’mon, Brewster! Can’t you ever do 1-2-3?
2 pitches. 2 outs.
And then 2 walks.
3 outs to get. Let’s go Brusdar.
Muncy hit that one hard.
Good chance for Smith to not strike out here. 3-0 count.
And he gets a walk.
Good Fergie!

More station to station work to score Freddie again!
A 4K night for Smith.
Lynn averaging 1.4 homers per start this year. He was well above average tonight. Showing off for his new team I suppose. Lol
I’d still say this was an encouraging effort.
*Against the A’s…
With a new team, after a cross-country trip. Decent pitch count, seven Ks and only one BB.
Yep. It could have been worse.
Encouraging but not definitive.
Mookie!!
Mookie!!!
I will say this: 7 innings from a starter is kinda fun.
i’m old enough to remember when “seven-inning-pitcher” was an insult.
Nothing wrong with going 7 now. The game has changed.
I agree, I think that was that part of a macho ethic that probably shortened a lot of careers, in retrospect.
Not hard to see why Lynn’s era starts with a 6.
OK, that’s enough!
30!
Lynn, I think now, was pitching well because it was the A’s.
Outman is now a tough out
If nothing else, Lynn is averaging 3.6 pitches per batter through 22 batters.
This is his spring training.
Kiké catch!!!
Player of the Game.
Co-player if you want to cheer for the other new guy a little.
Maybe a little less cheering now…
Hard to tell if Lynn is pitching well or if he is just pitching well against the A’s.
Annnd… he just gives up a HR. Very on brand for him.
Gelof’s younger brother has just signed with the Dodgers.
You don’t say
https://www.truebluela.com/dodgers-mlb-draft/2023/7/9/23789220/dodgers-mlb-draft-2023-jake-gelof-second-round
He has thrown a few 92 mph fastballs down the middle of the plate that have been taken.
Wow. 7 pitch inning for Lynn. Another time when the half inning is over before the MLB Audio starts their play by play.
There are green sell T shirts out here now!
Top of the fifth is when they do it.
Five stood up and yelled at start of fifth. Their voices carried to the field.
Giants up on Diamondbacks.
Kiké!!! Double!!!
Kiké!!!
¡Quique!
Clutch HBP!
That’s one way to score!
Dodgers trying to get Freddie home via station to station.
Single, walk, walk, HPB = first run since Sat.
We’re burning up the bases.
At least they were off Monday.
Are you feeling it?
Outman is. I was hoping for a grand slam.
Muncy has made their pitcher throw him 20 pitches!
A painful process though.
Will has really cooled off.
He is not a big guy and he gets banged up.
Yay. A hit.
So far, Lynn can handle the A’s
So far, Dodger hitters can’t figure out the A’s.
Too many handles in the game and not enough barrels.
Nice
This month starts with the A’s – MLB’s worst team – and ends with the start of a series with the Braves – MLB’s best team. Should be fun to see how this new look team does.
Those of you with video – are there many in the seats wearing green “sell” shirts?
I haven’t noticed any
Kike’ is wearing green shoes
Maybe Yarbrough will be a crazy good surprise.
Maybe the reign must fall but I don’t think it will be because of Yarbrough. I think he will be an asset and the Dodgers will keep winning Divisions. 😉
Nice reference

Thoughtful of the Snakes to swat the Gnats last night, though it took them longer than it should have. Phoenix has their best starter going tonight at Software Stadium.
Tonight, unfortunately, is a blackout – though I do not want the A’s going to Vegas, which would be a disaster.
Gonna be fun watching the AL West race. Rangers get Scherzer, Astros get Verlander. I hope the Rangers win the west.
Back in the day for sure. Not so much with everyone making the playoffs. Angels making a run is something to watch, though.
And to hope for, in my case. I was there at the beginning and saw a game when they played that first season at Wrigley Field (LA). Trout deserves a World Series shot.
I loathe the new playoff format. If anything, they should be reducing the number of teams in the post-season.
I hear you. Saw the Brewers tonight and thought “this is a team that would qualify for the playoffs!?”
Now living on the West Coast your comment caught me off guard. It’s bright daylight in my Washington and you have already been to and seen a game on the East Coast.
I remember waiting for the sun to set in Tacoma so I could hear Vin on KFI.
That said, they could match up during the playoffs, which would be something.
Taking in Nats hosting Brewers tonight.
I’m old friend Gray pitching.
Well, the trade deadline has come and gone. We don’t have to listen to any more ludicrous trade proposals. Dodgers didn’t make any big impact moves. Gonna need Kersh to come back strong and Urias and Gonsolin to turn things around.
Might hope that at least one of the youngin’s matures quickly. Lance should be better that Thor as well.
Did you notice that Syndergaard promptly went 5 1/3 pretty good innings for the Guardians in his first start for them? Maybe he needed the American League.
Smoke and mirrors? Zero strikeouts and only 2 swing and misses in five innings. Mike P. says in the 8 years of Statcast for a pitcher facing at least 20 batters, there has never been a larger gap between wOBP allowed and expected wOBP. Balls were findIng leather at an historical rate.
Huh. I didn’t analyze that deeply.
That’s what Mike P is for.
From a glance at the box score, it was obvious he wasn’t overpowering. Also, I read that he got knocked out of the game by a line drive.
I noticed that – I wish him no ill, but it was a very lucky outing.
Grove could have used some of that luck.
I would like to see the Dodgers bring up Fedducia and move on from Barnes. Also, sit Muncy down against lefties.
I guess, but fairly marginal moves on the offense side, which really hasn’t been a problem. If pitching is the problem might want to have a familiar face behind the plate every five days. Max traditionally doesn’t have big splits, so probably better to have him work it out.
By the end of the year the youngins will be seasoned.
