Dodgers at Astros, 4:40 PM PDT, TV: ESPN, ATT SportsNet SW, SPNLA
RHP Trevor Bauer (5-2, 1.98 ERA) tries to pitch the Dodgers to a sweep of this two-game series. He’ll face the Astros’ RHP Luis Garcia (2-3, 3.38 ERA).
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 2015 Clayton Kershaw pitched seven innings of four-hit ball and the Dodgers scored six runs in the fourth inning on doubles by Howie Kendrick, Andre Ethier and A.J. Ellis and went on to beat the Atlanta Braves 8-0.
Also, a very famous game took place on this date in 1959: Pirates’ hurler Harvey Haddix pitches 12 perfect innings but loses 1-0 to the Braves in the 13th inning. The heart-breaking winning run scores on a Don Hoak error, a sacrifice, a walk, and a two-bagger by Joe Adcock. To add insult to injury,
In 1991, the Committee for Statistical Accuracy in Baseball announced that a no-hitter would be redefined as “a game in which a pitcher or pitchers complete a game of nine innings or more without allowing a hit,” meaning Haddix’s gem no longer qualified. When he was made aware that one of the greatest games ever pitched no longer had a place in the record books, his response was simple: “It’s OK. I know what I did.”

Padres lost to the Brewers, 6-5, in 10 innings on Friday afternoon.
This is still Thursday, even two time zones to the east.
The result was partly due to Tatís, who commited two more errors. Once again, his E’s (14) outnumber his HRs (13). Defensively, he’s the new José Offerman.
Meanwhile, down on the farm… https://twitter.com/jokeylocomotive/status/1397702212587986944?s=20
Do something right for a change Astros: Save it for the Padres.
Garcia is kinda enjoyable to watch – his delivery is rock, kick and fire. Enjoyable except for the fact he is an Astro.
I agree. He’s bringing it.
Joe Beckwith, who pitched for the Dodgers for five seasons (1979-1980, 1982-1983 and 1986) passed away Saturday at the age of 66:

Beckwith, I think.
You’re right. I just corrected it, better late than never.
I had hoped for a better result.
Oh Well. We were due for a stinker.
Agreed. 4-1 road trip is acceptable.
Yeah, but who is going to tell rbi that we lost it for her after she put it in our hands when she left?
Draw straws I guess..
I’m back. Mama not happy. But Mama will be fine.
The Beerboys blew a big opportunity in the tenth, and lost to the Pads.
And Dodgers go down.
Pujols for the… tie?
MLB.tv just went to commercial and bounced back to third inning.
It’s fine here on Roku. Are you on the iPad, which continues having problems?
iPad tonight.
Time to lodge a complaint with MLBTV.
Need a Milwaukee comeback in the 10th.
Or an SD collapse.
Meanwhile in Houston.
There is a glimmer of hope.

Eric is quick.
But it’s a Straw man argument.
That’s why he’s a punnedit.
Ha!
Santana seems to be always walking the tightrope of lots of base runners.
WHIP 1.929, so yep.
Nice DP. Now keep that runner on third.
As long as Houston beats San Diego in the next series.
On the bright side, the Snakes have taken a 4-0 lead over the Gnats with one out in the second.
Nice play. Frustratingly.
I’m good if Dodgers hit a HR after every out made.
You have done the math.
4 Yr BSc: Mathematics.
Not resting on your laurels.
Nope. Resting on my couch though.
OK, that’s a start.
The noisy guy.
Neuse doesn’t want to be sent down: Hitting department.
So much for the Nate Jones experiment…
Throwing well. The outs were there for the taking.
Due for a loss?
Nah – due for a late inning comeback.
When it rains it pours.
Meirda!!
Run was avoidable.
Very.
Totally
Woulda, coulda, shoulda
Jones is kinda funky in his pitching motion.
I dont like the part of his motion where it ends up over the wall.
Need to make mince meat out of their pen.
Rats!
¡Miércoles!
Grrr.
Well, solo shot.
Helpful for sure.
Oh my! Great throw.
Fantastic throw by Smith.
Got him!
Phew. The camera angle made that look like it was gone.
I thought so when it left the bat.
Gameday appears to have died.
7 pitch inning didn’t compute.
It still has this game in the fifth inning.
Good inning by Bauer.
Garcia is playing tougher than Greinke.
Pitch counts are pretty even now.
Neuse doesn’t want to get sent down. Playing some good D out there.
He is making the right noises.
He’ll have to hit (more than) a bit more.
Nice play by Neuse.
It’s like The Gambler: Know when to walk to first, know when to run.
And then Smith ruins it by striking out…
García’s not long for this game.
Garcia coming unglued second time through the order.
Not unglued enough however.
Come on Sluggo!
Mookie slid back in with his non-gloved hand.
Hot Turner?
Justin time.
Justin Hines.
Max gets it done!
Woot!
Yes!
Max is feared.
Light him up Max.
Can we get something out of nothing?
Tsutsugo. The pronunciation of his name always makes me think of that Phil Collins song Sussudio.
I’d never heard it until recently and, now, I wish I hadn’t.
LOL. Not one of his better efforts.
Not my favourite Collins song either if I’m being honest.
Although it would be kinda funny if Tsutsugo used Sussidio as his walk up song.
That would actually be pretty cool.
Bellinger may be back Saturday.
Woot!
And McKinstry.
I wonder who goes down when they come back. Neuse is probably gone. Raley already gone. Tsutsugo?
Peters, obviously. He needs everyday ABs.
Yep. Forgot about him.
Looked good that inning.
Pitcher Matt Lauer of the Beerboys just went deep against his former Pads team, now a 1-1 tie in the third.
I’m off to my writers group. Get the win for us, okay?
97 mph high heat. Whew.
I expected more.
Please end this inning. Gotta feed the dog.
Done!
34 pitches and still only 2 outs.
Bauer not very sharp so far. Hope he settles down and catches his groove.
He’s really struggling.
Phew
Good to see Beaty get the start at 1st base. Pujols should not start against righties.
I agree. He is hitting .157 vs. righties and .282 vs. lefties this year. Nonetheless, I expect that Roberts will continue to give him some starts vs. righties. For his career, Pujols is hitting .297 against righties and .299 vs. lefties, a tiny difference, but those days when he could hit righties well are past.
