Dodgers vs. Red Sox, 4:15 PM PDT, TV: Fox
RHP Ross Stripling (3-3, 3.79 ERA) makes his fourth start replacing the injured Rich Hill. He hasn’t been really successful as a starter yet this season; he’s not gotten past the fifth inning in any start and he’s given up four runs in each of the last two. He’ll face LHP Chris Sale (3-8, 4.04 ERA), who’s not been his usual ace-like self this year. In fact, he gave up five runs in each of his last two starts prior to the All Star break.
In about the only Dodger highlight of Friday’s game, Alex Verdugo curls a home run around the Pesky Pole in right field:
This has nothing to do with the Dodgers or the Red Sox, but I found it interesting: a history of the walk-up song.
Lineup when available.
Today's Dodger lineup at Red Sox:
Taylor LF
Turner 3B
Freese DH
Bellinger RF
Pollock CF
Muncy 1B
Seager SS
Hernández 2B
Barnes C

Ordered restored as every division rival lost yesterday. Dodgers lead Snakes by 13.5, Rox by 14.5 (big day for Puig in Denver), Pads by 15 and Gnats by 17.5. They are 4.5 ahead of Barves for best NL record, and one game/.005 ahead of Yanquis for best in baseball.

Whoops too early…
Sunday Night Baseball tomorrow. Ryu v. Price. National TV audience on ESPN. A-Rod, Jessica Mendoza, Matt Vasgersian and Buster Olney on the microphones.
I hadn’t noticed that Kelly had replaced Stripling and while Stripling was hitting 92 mph on his fastball, when I saw Kelly’s 100 mph fastball and thought it was still Stripling pitching, I was startled. What a difference there is between 92 and 100. That said, Stripling was much more successful than Kelly.
It is nice to check in and see we have a lead, as shakey as it is.
Bob Hendley: I am relatively nearby in Assisi but unable to access much because of all the unfamiliar “cookies” questions. Are they new or just in Europe? It’s 2 a.m. and I am about to go to sleep. What’s the score and what is the inning? This will be one weird day-night doubleheader for us. Dodger fans are everywhere.
2-0 Dodgers, 3rd inning.
Thanks for the score. The Dodgers have never won a game while I have been in Assisi (first visit). Good night.
Sleep well and may St. Francis watch over you.
Not sure what you’re asking. I had no access problems in Holland, Belgium and Sweden.
Yeah. There was some sort of change. I just say yes to all the cookies here and it works out.
Nice to have a laugher.
The streak is over.
Woo-HOO!!!
Nice turn of events.
Nice at bats by Quique and Austin.
Not to mention Bellinger and Pollock…
Austin with the speed.
Great baserunning, Max!
Belldinger!
Phew!
Was the boat rocking?
Off the boat now. 3:50 am here.
Kelly was rockin’ (and almost rocked).
Two left on in each of the last two innings. In this park you need every run you can get. I hope that doesn’t come back to bite us.
Also, maybe it’s time we brought Will Smith up to catch and hit. Barnes has not done well at all since 2017.
Boston returns the favor!
Freese has been missed.
We are scoring runs again!
Do it again, we like it
Almost
The dinger notwithstanding, Stripling’s been pretty good through four.
Did y’all see the story of the tribute to the late Tyler Skaggs in Anaheim which wound up as a combined no-hitter to boot?
Fantastic!
And Turner turns on it!
JT!!!
Good future person!
WooHoo!
9 pitch at bat by CO3. Sale up over 50.
Tons of Dodgers fans here
You’re at the game?
Yes
Good for you. I’ve been to one game at Fenway, in April 1984, v. my hometown Mariners. Alvin Davis made his debut then, and homered. Can’t remember who won, but I didn’t much care.
Pollock is back?
You took note of that the other day. 😉

I meant his making a contribution…
Imagine if he gets it going.
Sale seems easily upset.
Jay Jaffe wrote a wonderful eulogy for Jim Bouton.
It is wonderful. Thanks for linking.
May catch a bit of this. On a party boat in Lake Como that won’t dock until 2:30pm local time.
Raise a glass for me!
Exciting!
My sister-in-law is very posh. (Well, so is my wife)

You know, I’m glad Walker got to be an all-star, but how much better off would the team be if Roberts hadn’t pitched him in the ASG so he could pitch tonight?
On the other hand, don’t let them get a good look at your best starters before the WS?
