Braves at Phillies, 11:07 AM PDT, TV: FS1
RHP Charlie Morton (9-6, 4.34 ERA) takes the ball for the Braves in this do-or-die game against the Phillies. The Phillies counter with RHP Noa Syndergaard (5-2, 4.12 ERA).
Dodgers at Padres, 6:37 PM PDT, TV: FS1
The Dodgers’ backs are against the wall, and they hand the ball to LHP Tyler Anderson (15-5, 2.57 ERA). The Padres give their ball to RHP Joe Musgrove (10-7, 2.93 ERA).
I’ll watch the Spiders and the Yanquis – both legitimate champions – but after that the season is over for me. No mildcard team ever belongs in the LCS, and the Trashtros belong in the Texas League.
Went to a wedding last night. Came home to discover we had flopped in our quest for a championship. Very disappointing. Especially after such a marvelous season. Must be what it felt like back in 1953.
Gonna be interesting to see what AF does this off season. Dodgers need a make over.
It has been a pleasure blogging with you all this season. Thanks Link for this venue and all your efforts.
Go Phillies. Go Guardians.
Not clear they need a makeover, but they will have decisions to make regarding the roster.
Whatever you want to call it, some things need to change.

Jon W has Dodger Thoughts about the failure.
ALDS Game Four NPUT.
The 5-inning script for pitchers no matter how well they’re pitching has got to be adjusted, says Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times.
The worst ending to a Dodger season since 1962. I am getting too old for this. At this point I don’t plan to become so emotionally involved with the Dodgers next season. It is a bad relationship. I was numb after last night. Have a nice fall and winter, friends.
I might be right there with you my dear friend.
Yep, right up there with 62 for me as well.
Oh Scoop I’m so sorry! For whatever reason I was really anticipating this early ending, so it wasn’t as hard on me as other years.
To be honest, I wasn’t surprised. Padre fans were like Romans watching slaves vs. lions in the Colosseum.
1966 was just a great shock. ‘ 62 was self-inflicted, just like this series.
1966 vs. the Orioles in the World Series became an ever louder drumbeat, painful inning after painful inning. After Willie Davis made three errors in one inning, Sandy Koufax, in effect the victim, sat next to Willie in the dugout and put his arm around him to console him. It was one of his finest moments and Sandy’s last season.

The bottom of the 8th inning was what we needed for the bottom of the 7th inning.
I really want(ed) the Win for Vin thing to be a thing.
Oh boy. What a sad inning. Two innings left to try to make up the difference. Assuming we get a third out.
The pen was supposed to be a strength. Hard that on the night the Dodgers had the best starters performance of the series this happened.
Reminded myself that the previous six teams to bounce the Dodgers from the playoffs were crowned MLB Champs.
So I will be rooting for the Friars.
3-0
10-4
Good buddy
Roberts and Trea must have read about 20 blogs that begged for bunts
Martin is definitely doing his job. But the Dodgers are not turning ground balls into (extra) outs.
He’s very good.
Can’t trust the ump, guys, Don’t figure it’ll be called outside. Protect the plate!
So, the same strike zone as last night… https://twitter.com/BlakeHarrisTBLA/status/1581467612004745216?s=20&t=PLo4EViNGVWwOzm02B7Bug
Big zone is a disadvantage for the disciplined Dodgers, even if being called both ways.
I’ve been paying only casual attention this morning but, either way, a mildcard team will win this match the Barves and the Fillies. In any event, a Manfred mess.
7-2 Phillies suddenly.
I guess I’ll continue to post game threads while the postseason continues, but after that the blog’s gonna be quiet for a while.
I will have little interest in the WS. But if Cleveland reaches it, I will root for the Guardians. One of my close friends is a lifelong fan of Cleveland, which hasn’t won the World Series since 1948 and has lost four since, including in 1954, when it had a better record (111-43) than the Dodgers had this season.
Eh. I can root for the Phillies and the Guardians with no difficulty. Certainly not the Astros or the Yankees.
Link: I can’t say goodbye without saying thank you so much for what you did all year long on this site, particularly with everything you have had to deal with. You’re a blessing.
Thanks.
Well, they put together a great team and a season that was full of joy. Not sure where you go from here in terms of lessons learned and all that as the FO goes into the off season.
Thanks for the great company. Another year.
Good morning, good afternoon – and good night 2022 Dodgers. And Elysian Fields friends…
See you all again next March.
My wife will be happy, though she will hide it and console me.
Hahaha. I just turned to my husband and said – well, I’ll have a lot more free time this month.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
They gave me a great season. I watched almost every game and loved every minute of this year and every member of this team. I’m sorry we fell so flat, but playoffs are their own thing.
Crap shoot as they say.
The failure to hit with men in scoring position all series was the difference.
As it is in life.
As it is in life…
The Dodgers have disappointed me a lot over the years, but this is way up close to the top.
They’ve also given me a lot of joy, but …
Hard to have much higher expectations than having a 111 win team in the playoffs. So that’s always fun…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMSNP6jdNEM
They out-played us, even with the bad umpiring.
Unbelievable. Three strikeouts to end the season.
Baseball.
Yep.
Out with a whimper?
Or back to back bombs?
I was thinking that the 4+1 game was against the Padres, but not to be replicated.
Seems like long ago and a different game last time Trea was up.
It all seemed so exciting back then.
Need a Hader implosion here.
I suppose we can all wonder why Phillips wasnt in for the heart of the order in the 7th now.
Yep.
Saving him to close out the save in the bottom of the ninth.
Yup. Instead of putting him in at the most crucial moment of the game, and the season.
Scoop!
We have been on a retreat this weekend, with no TV, and thankfully only followed the games in bits and spurts. Reading the play-by-play was painful enough.
Well, we have our top three leading off, so we can’t ask for much more than that.
Well, at least we have the top of our order due up.
An LCS with two mildcard teams would demonstrate how the Manfred regime has devalued the sport.
He’s done exactly what all the owners wanted him to do. No more and certainly no less.
Outside of the Houston team, all the other division winners could end up being eliminated by teams that got hot in the first round.
Both the Yanquis and the Spiders won their divisions, so no.
Let me phrase that then. Outside of Houston, all the other teams that got byes could end up being eliminated by teams who got hot in the first round. Do you have issue with that?
OK, but the Spiders still won their division.
That’s why I corrected it so it has nothing to do with division leaders. It has to do with getting a bye.
It is an intriguing coda to the season if this deficit holds up.
In what way? The score? The cooling off?
I watch Dodgers for a good story. The fact that they were dominant all year, especially against the padres, and then in the moment of truth were found wanting, is interesting as it makes them all tooo human.
I saw/felt this ending coming the last week of the season and going forward, honestly. We were so flat against the Rockies, and the Padres/Mets games showed me that the Padres were finally firing on all cylinders. I think we could have beaten the Mets, as they, too, were slowing down. But I told my husband once the Padres beat the Mets that I thought we would lose this round.
Who would you want /expect to win if it was Phils vs Pads?
Not fond of either team, so it’s a tossup as far as want. Expect? Probably San Diego.
Outside of a Dodger comeback – I would be rooting for Cleveland as long as they are in the playoffs.
Yes, me, too.
Makes next season a nice redemptive arc if they accept the challenge. Of course Trey Turner can still have a bit of a redemptive moment in the 9th of this one as well.
Bellinger! His chance to stay on the team for next year?
CT3 didn’t help either.
It’s raining on their parade.
It’s pouring rain!
OH great. Now the game will be ended early due to rain.
Haha. Imagine them doing that for a playoff game.
Thanks Profar for ending the misery.
What the heck is the crowd howling that sounds like the Braves’ fans chant?
The pads know how to hit singles.
They really came to life at the right time. I expected them to be this good all year.
It’s the 5-3 curse
You never know.
I was hoping we could at least hold them at 3.
Watching with the sound off means I’m sad rather than bitter/angry with the cheering.
At least you’re watching.
I’m barely watching at this point to be honest. Thinking about books and shows I can dive into and catch up on soon.
Doc’s gonna catch hell but this isn’t on him I don’t think.
Well, that couldn’t have been worse.
Up hill battle now
How tough is it coming in here and already have a 1-0 count to work around?
What happened to Almonte?
Doc didn’t like the match up, particularly after ball one.
Oh – I thought he was maybe hurt.
What happened to our team?
Freddie chatting with Soto like it’s Tuesday night bingo.
Ha! I am only reading comments here and I like this one.
I wish I was a better human. It makes me feel like I care about this game more than Freddie does. And that I’m caring about the wrong thing!
He’s been doing this a long time.
So true.
They’re professionals.
And I’m only confessional.
Hahaha.
I can’t even watch the game right now. What kind of person does that make me?
Very wise?!
Nice play, Freddie!
That’s a start. Yhency!
Oh, so sad
BEAT SD
Worst time ever for the pen to implode. 3 runs is not insurmountable but really it could have been enough.
Well, we needed to put it to bed last inning and we didn’t. This is on us.
That didn’t take long
Fingers crossed!
Guess we are going to need more runs.
Future people, we need some help here.
No help.
Ump!
So bad.
Gutsy call taking Kahnle out.
Seriously, I can’t watch.
I definitely turned down the volume.
Glad they got that 3rd run.
I thought that hit the runner at first.
They’re saying deflected by Freeman.
Is it reviewable?
I presume it would be, but nobody’s complaining.
Definitely went off Freddie.
Uh-oh.
I can’t watch, suddenly. Get the three outs now, please, guys.
We’ll settle for a DP
Julio Rodriguez caught one like that with score tied at zero in the top of the 16th inning.
Trayce caught one like that earlier.
Trayce saved that from doing serious damage.
Nice trap, though.
Phew yeah.
Ok Dodger pen. (Continue to) be basically perfect please.
Especially disappointed in Max’s at bat.
Justin used to be Mr. Clutch
He had the match up for sure.
Hard taking the bat out of Freddie’s hands as well. If that had been a wild pitch and not a hit by pitch – Mookie would have scored and Freddie still would have been at the plate.
It wouldn’t have bounced away if it hadn’t hit him.
Really needed Will’s at bat to be a hit rather than a sac fly. It was the only ball hit hard the whole inning.
I thought it had a chance off the bat. He hit it hard!
Exactly.
Oh well, if we are good enough
¡Miércoles!
That’s disappointing.
Just a single Justin, just a single
Nope.
JT gets to see the lefty.
To be fair, Max kinda started 0-1
They had to bring in the LOOGY just for him, but JT not able to take advantage.
Darn it!
Drat it, Max.
Bad future person!
Biggest jumps in the history of baseball
https://twitter.com/nycsouthpaw/status/1581504212789100544?s=20&t=2ID1BDEDygTe0hY9tOCHCg
Whoa!
Good whoa, or bad woah?
Good!
The double steal?
Yep
Double steal!!!
Dodger baseball!!
The spirit of Maury!
The Dodgers may now adopt a drone as a good luck charm.
Okay, now get the other two runners in. Then I might start feeling comfortable.
Yeah – an actual hit would still be nice
When I saw in play runs, I was being a bit greedy and hoping for more
Sac fly!!!! Finally!
Not a hit wrisp but with no outs, a keeper
It did hit him.
Have to score here. Have. To.
Oh come on.
So ridiculous. But! Sacks loaded no outs…
Optimistic about our chances (but still nervous)
Oh man! Almost.
Heart in throat! Thought Betts might score.
What a bunt!!!
What a bunt indeed!!!
Mookie skipped over to 2nd.
They kept playing when a goose sat on the field.
Bunt, interesting
Ah, so that’s the on field delay
Keep it here for all the breaking news.
Drone watch!
Harder to coral than a streaker.
Than a goose.
Or a goose
That’s a start
Surely mookie is due
Due for some good calls behind the plate.
This would be a good inning to score 2 more.
Utah beat SC by a point, 43-42.
Jon tweets that insurance runs are for the weak.
Thanks Chris, I mean Mr. Meyers.
If it actually been a strike it would be in the left field stands at this point.
It was a good swing
Phew
Martin not so sharp.
But gets his man!
Sharp enough!
hmmm
Why can’t we HIT the ball rather than swing and miss it?
It’s a feature, not a bug at this point in baseball.
I like the SD swing and misses though
Lux swings at ball four (which would’ve been called strike three).
gameday showed it strike
The strikeouts, the strikeouts!
Nearly matched by and definitely contributing to:
The LOB, the LOB!
The Plane, The Plane
Ha!
Game 7 of the 1960 WS (the Maz dinger) there were no strikeouts.
That is wild, wild stuff.
Say what you will, the ump has been consistent…
Especially for Padre pitching and Dodger hitting.
Gavin our guy here.
Bad call, Ump.
We are not getting that one ump!
I’d love to see something not in the k, pop up or DP realm from CT3.
Happy to see the top 3 Dodgers having success (well – mostly Freddie) but could use the rest of the lineup to produce as well.
Be nice to pounce on him now with a dinger.
Or now.
Looks like Doc wouldn’t let Tyler go through a third time with Brusdar warming in the pen.
Guessing at the very least he won’t face Manny again especially with men on.
He’s looking sharp enough.
86 pitches
Two runs are not enough, guys. Keep hitting.
Off-season rule change? https://twitter.com/DSzymborski/status/1581455277471469570?s=20&t=Gc2zOfYvxLJ5T0JSFP6mtw
Big boys coming up again.
Wottacatch!
Trayce does the full Belli (so to speak),
Trayce with the super hero catch!
I had to step away for dinner, but I did get to see Freddie’s two-bagger on the IPad.
At least Lux hit it, sort of
I’m off to wash some dinner dishes. Here’s hoping for more runs while I’m playing in the warm water.
Just finished mine.
Same
Nice shutdown Tyler.
Rats.
We need the turner of old here
Instead we get the old Turner
Whoa! The Guardians got three in the bottom of the ninth and beat the Yankees 6-5. They lead the series 2-1.
What would George Steinbrenner have said?
“See you later Billy Martin. You’re fired!”
Guardians win!!
Wow
Had 5 hits in the ninth.
You misspelled “Spiders.”
Yeah – I think they blew it too not going with Spiders.
Arachnids
Yippee! Now let’s get one more!
Smith gets choppered back to SD after driving home to “help” his wife give birth.
The long international nightmare is over!!
Well maybe a three day walk between missions in San Diego and Los Angeles.
Pile on Willie!
Finally!
OMG
Let’s go!!!!
Eso!
Please…
Got one by Manny!!!
Manny undressed like Charlie Brown on that one!
Ump!
Guardians trying to come back in the bottom of the 9th down 5-3 but with runners at 1st and 3rd and one out.
All it will take is a couple of simple hits wrisp
If they decide not to use them, could they send them to the Dodgers?
Oh. They decided to use one already. 5-4 now.
One to go
Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest, https://twitter.com/waDNR/status/1581460953304289280?s=20&t=Gc2zOfYvxLJ5T0JSFP6mtw
The strikeouts just keep coming.
Coming into the game the Friars (33) have struck out more than the Dodgers (31). Bites both ways.
There were at least 40 K’s in the Seattle game today.

I’m missing Kike and Joc about now
Have to build up Musgrove’s pitch count tonight.
Yeah, so we can get to their pen…
Ha
I believe in the power of constant erosion?
Those are some shiny, red ears on Musgrove. I’d check them.

JT with the duck snort – aka the goose shot.
Astros on to their 6th straight ALCS
I can easily root for the Spiders, but will have to bite my lip if it’s the Yanquis.
Ugh. Can’t stand either team.
Trashtros have taken a 1-0 lead in the 18th.
Belli not starting is a sign that he won’t be around come the off season.
Really? That still seems kinda crazy he could be gone.
Well, what does it say to you?
Ugh – I hate the written word sometimes. When I said “really?” – it was not a challenge – it was genuine surprise.
I honestly don’t know what it means to me! I still love his glove so much that I’m still rooting for him to stick around and become at least a 100 OPS+ guy.
Maybe the game in Seattle will just keep going and going. The NLCS will be played and the winner will be waiting for a WS opponent – but the ALDS still won’t be over.
Let’s get the slumber out of the lumber!
This series at a glance:
Total Runs: Padres 10, Dodgers 9
Dodgers: LOB 23, RISP 3 for 25
Padres: LOB 22, RISP 3 for 25
I’ve been watching Seattle v Houston. 0 -0 bottom of the 16th. Julio Rodriguez is absolutely awesome.
What a game. I love the Seattle team.
That play was beautiful.
Any announcement yet when this game will start?
7:07 (10:07 for me)
https://twitter.com/DodgersNation/status/1581427635950743552
These are the guys who have to get it done today and tomorrow.
https://twitter.com/Dodgers/status/1581390015841505281
Not bad
Blocked.
And just like that the Braves are done.
The Barves are done for.
ALDS NPUT
3-1 Phillies in the third.
