Giants at Dodgers, 1:10 PM, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), NBCS BA, SPNLA
RHP Kevin Gausman (3-0, 1.53 ERA) goes for the Giants and LHP Clayton Kershaw (7-3, 2.94 ERA pitches for the home-team Dodgers.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1946 In Boston’s 10-8 victory over the Dodgers, Bama Rowell’s long drive hits the Bulova clock located above the right field scoreboard, making the left-fielder the first major leaguer to reach the famous landmark at Ebbets Field. The crushing four-bagger, that shatters the face of the clock causing glass to cascade onto Dodgers right fielder Dixie Walker, is believed to be the inspiration for author Bernard Malamud having Roy Hobbs, the hero of his 1952 novel “The Natural,” belt a similar home run, which also rains glass over the diamond.
- 1962 Frank Thomas strokes a double off Sandy Koufax in the Mets’ 13-6 loss to Los Angeles, extending his franchise mark of consecutive games with a hit to 18 for the expansion team. The streak, which will be only one shy of Maury Wills’ league-leading total for the season, is halted when the New York left fielder goes 0-for-4 in the nightcap of the Dodgers’ sweep at the Polo Grounds.
- 1986 In a 6-4 loss to the Dodgers at Three Rivers Stadium, future home run king Barry Bonds goes 0-for-5 in his major league debut. The Pirates center fielder, batting leadoff, strikes out three times.

NPUT
If an Asterisks’ reliever manages to hold on to a six-run lead, does that qualify as a save? Andre Scrubb has not gotten off to a promising start.
For that team, yes!
Good news of the day – the Asterisks have taken a 7-0 lead over the Pads. We’ll see if they can hold it. Snell threw 81 pitches through three before being relieved.
Tomorrow.
Gonna have to get better, Boys in blue!
2021 Dodgers: Awesome except for 1 run games and extra inning games. Then they are atrocious.
Phoo! Swept.
1-3
But totally felt like a sweep.
Right. I forgot game one entirely.
At 3-4 v the Dodgers, a .429 winning percentage, the Gnats are overachieving.
Tough pitch.
Boo.
Let’s go!!!
Albert’s heating up!
Likely to be one of Vesia’s last appearances.
You never know…
On the right day, the Gnatpen can be as bad as the Asterisks’.
Woot!
OK, don’t stop now!
MAX! Thank goodness!!!!
Unproductive, JT.
Okay. Maybe not a shut out at
least w Barnesie on third. Maybe.
We are so streaky!
Bizarre.
Gausman is probably the front-runner for NL Cy Young Award now, sorry to say.
What I remember about the 1962 game noted above is that Maury Wills hit homers from both sides of the plate, becoming only the fifth National Leaguer to do that. Also, one of them was inside the park. It was at the Polo Grounds and the first game of a doubleheader. The Dodgers won both games.
If you can’t get Gausman out, should you still be in the game?
It’s appalling how Kershaw is letting these scrubs get on base.
At some point you may have to concede the gnats are better than you think they are…
Well, they might edge out the Rox or Snakes for third place.
At Juice Carton Field, Andre Scrubb gets the “save” by surrendering just three hits (two homers), three runs and a walk in the ninth.
They look as faulty as we do right now.
Greinke’s gone eight and his Asterisks lead the Pads 7-1.
I have no video today, and maybe that’s a good thing.
Our pitchers and catchers have not adjusted to the gnats aggression this series.
This is infuriating. Kershaw should be knocking the bats out of their hands.
See below. The gnats have been taking a completely different approach to our pitchers throughout the series and nobody is adjusting by throwing sliders from the get-go. In my humble opinion. Let’s see if Kersh and Barnes adjust in the second inning.
Serious rule one violations going on in RBI’s kitchen. Clayton you cannot throw fastballs on your first pitch to these guys.
You also don’t let Slater and Flores on base under any conditions.
They are swinging on the first pitch strike and it’s working.
OK, Klayton, that/s enough!
Apparently not.
