Rockies at Dodgers, 1:15 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet RM, SPNLA
RHP Antonio Senzatela (6-5, 5.09 ERA) is a third-year pitcher who’s having a pretty good June: he’s 3-1 with a 3.57 ERA for the month. He’ll face the Dodgers’ RHP Kenta Maeda (7-4, 3.87 ERA). Maeda won four games in May but has lost two in June, and the Dodgers seem to think he can’t face a lineup three times. His longest outing of the year is 6 2/3 innings, and he’s not gone past five this month.
Verdugo had a four-hit game on Saturday night; the walk-off HR wasn’t his only production. Here’s the recap:
Personnel move: Freese to the IL with a hamstring strain, Will Smith up from AAA to replace him.
On this date in Dodgers’ history:
- 1930 The Dodgers get twelve consecutive hits in a 19-6 win over the Pirates at Forbes Field. Two of the dozen hits in the eight-run sixth inning include a pair of homers hit by Brooklyn outfielder Babe Herman.
- 1986 The Braves strand 18 runners on base, establishing a National League record. Enough Atlanta players do score to give the team a 6-5 victory over L.A. at Dodger Stadium.
Other notable events in baseball on this date include Ernie Shore’s near-perfect game in 1917, when he relieved Babe Ruth (ejected for arguing balls and strikes and possibly punching the umpire) and retired 26 consecutive batters.
Lineup when available.

I heard it. I was watching at the time, though.
Garlick, Beaty and Smith. Who ever saw that coming? Certainly not I.
Verdugo, Beaty and Smith.
I was speaking in general terms of players we didn’t think would factor into this season.
Each is hitting over .300 in brief appearances.
Verdugo is a grizzled veteran compared to those three.
That chin beard of his certainly qualifies as grizzled. Beaty’s shaved head looks dopey on a kid his age, too, but as long as they keep performing like this, I’ll forgive them their poor hair choices.
I say let ’em play.
I had forgotten that Verdugo is still classified as a rookie.
Meanwhile, in the Czech Republic… https://twitter.com/WBSC/status/1142886958433095680?s=20
Local boy 2B Koiten Wong executes!
It looked unnecessary, though.
Roberts to Beaty and Smith: “Hey good news. We are calling you back up. The bad news is that you are going to have to hit a walk off homerun.”

Without looking up the others, I gotta believe Gail Hopkins did the most in life post-baseball:
Beautiful evening here and I stepped out to my deck to enjoy it and read some. I checked my phone and saw the score and realized there had to be a 3 run home run to score 3 in the bottom of the ninth. Then found that one of my favorite players hit it. I am now watching the bottom on the ninth. Can’t wait so see how it turns out 😉
The rookies beat the Rockies.
Only, down side is no win for Maeda.
I wonder who the Dodgers will call up tomorrow to be the designated walk off homer hitter?
Perhaps you or me.

Don’t have to. It’s Garlick’s turn up next.
Two rookies hit walk-off HRs in three games. Amazing.
Three.
Didn’t CT3 hit one of them?
Beaty,Verdugo and Smith.
The Dodgers break their own MLB record for consecutive walkoff homers by rookies.
Oh, no, his (Taylor’s) was on the 18th. Unreal. When you can’t keep track of who’s hit walkoff HRs…
This is unworldly.
The Rookies come through again!
Wow!!!Will!!! Woo-HOO!!!!!!!!
Steiner: “there is pixie dust raining down on this Dodger team.”
Are you kidding me!!
Crazy days!
“I don’t believe what I just saw!”
Watching gameday I figured they would walk Martin, and thought to myself “They do realize how hot Smith has been, right?” Apparently not.
Dodgers win!!
Let’s get jiggy!
Was the wild pitch on strike three to Taylor?
No.
The pitch before.
Looking for a third straight WOW game.
Walk Off Win.
You got it!
KJ does his job. Who will get the walkoff today?
Smith?
Kenley gets jobbed on Hampson and now has to face Dahl.
Martin messed it up.
Reminded of player past
How?
He failed to catch a good one-hop relay from Quique. Runner woulda been out by ten feet.
Ooph.

Taylor now 10-for-19 in his last six games, including today, with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs.
Seager couldn’t have done much better than that.
I wonder if Garlic was majoring in agriculture while at Cal Poly Pomona?
Really wild game in Pittsburgh, where Pads have blown three-run leads in ninth and 11th innings. It’s 10-10.
Hello everybody.
Maeda now can win, can’t lose.
Watching Gameday on the airplane.
That’s cool.
Amazing.
Absolute no-doubter.
We have all awakened on this blog.
Oh yeah, CT3!
That didn’t take long.
Taylor!!!
Oh my!
CTHR!
Something brewing?
Bluing?
Yes. I agree with pinch-hitting the strikeout-prone Taylor for Barnes, but the lack of a left-handed batter on the bench makes Roberts’ choice difficult.
Taylor’s hotter
Barely got that one in before he got really hot
As he just demonstrated. Perhaps I should have said “homer-prone” Taylor.
And another short inning. “See,” Maeda is saying. “I can go deep in games too.”
4 pitches!
Fantastic play and throw by Quique there.
Way to catch ’em, Joc!
Joc entertaining with sun pops and Kike’ entertaining with slides.
Meatball to Dahl.
Injury update and pitching plans for road trip.
Here is a stat that I find remarkable.
After 78 games (53-25), only one starting pitcher has lost more than one game for the Dodgers:
Ryu 9-1 (15 starts)
Buehler 8-1 (15)
Kershaw 7-1 (12)
Hill 4-1 (10)
Stripling 1-1 (6) — relief appearances not included
Urias 1-1 (5) — relief appearances not included
Ferguson 0-1 (1) — relief appearances not include
Maeda 7-4 (14)
Overall, our starters are 37-11. The relievers are 16-14.
Dodgers-Rox is free game of the day on MLBTV.
Freese goes to the deep freeze, but… https://twitter.com/kengurnick/status/1142859722585862144?s=20
