Dodgers at Diamondbacks, 6:40 PM PDT, TV: FS-A, SPNLA
Dodgers’ lefty Kershaw (7-1, 2.85 ERA) versus D-Backs’ righty Greinke (8-3, 2.91 ERA). Kershaw is 16-9 with a 2.59 ERA in his career against the Diamondbacks, 6-8 and 3.70 ERA at Chase Field. Greinke is 7-6 with a 4.28 ERA lifetime against the Dodgers.
Here’s young Mr Smith’s walk-off HR yesterday:
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1947 At Forbes Field, Jackie Robinson steals home in the Dodgers’ 4-2 victory over the Pirates. It is the Brooklyn infielder’s first theft of the dish, something the rookie will accomplish 19 times during his ten-year career.
Lineup when available.
Tonight's Dodger lineup at D-backs:

NPUT
Pederson has to be happy to be facing a righty again. With tonight’s K against the lefty Chafin, he is 4-for-26 this season with 10 Ks against southpaws.
No happiness there.
Nice bit of pitching there in the 6th by old friend Greinke.
Uhhh – okay. Can we get the real Kershaw out there (but keep Greinke as is)?
Oh well. Winning streaks always end sooner or later.
Ump wanted to go home.
Well, at lest he swung at one of them. G’night, all.
Night Scoop!
Nope.
Meanwhile, at Software Stadium… https://twitter.com/GrantBrisbee/status/1143380726710034432?s=20
Pitching change here seems a bit much. Only to get one out!
Russell gets on and Kiké ties it up; that’s all I’m asking for.
Sorry, Scoop. Not to be.
There’s one.
Where there’s life, there’s hope.
The longest journey begins with a single (if painful) step.
Need 4 to tie. Let’s go
Back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers would suffice for now.
It’s happened before.
WBBsAs’ favorite catcher just struck out for the second time in four ABs in San Francisco. Rockies lead 2-0 after eight.
Going into tonight’s game, the Poseur was on a pace for 6.39 HR and 38.37 RBI.
Joe Pignatano numbers.
That inning hurt.
But the extent to which it hurt made it almost less painful…
Unless the Dodgers score a couple of runs in the 9th.
True.
Interesting take, with which I agree.
Just recalled that the Dodgers are only a few games above .500 on the road.
Bad future person alert.
I think that hit by our former designated pinch-runner has put the game out of reach.
That must have been a deep fly to right to allow everybody to move up a base. (No eyes, no ears.)
Fairly deep and on the line. Bellinger made an ill-advised throw to third.
Not a great choice by Belli on the throw.
What he do?
Threw to third, which allowed Walker to get to second base.
NOW we hear the D-back fans.
Potentially a disastrous inning.
Does Floro rhyme with horror? No, I didn’t think so.
Shoot.
Very bad future person?
Bad and likely getting worse.
Question: Is the manner in which you learn what has happened slower than many because of an internet issue or something else?
MLBTV issue. It’s always slow.
Gotcha.
The tie that we struggled so hard to achieve disappears in 10 pitches, and there is still no outs.
DBacks are playing well against us. We are not getting those timely hits. And how about that catch by Ahmed!
Dodger Team LOB: 24.
D’Backs Team LOB: 7.
Dodgers have certainly had their chances.
That’s the cumulative LOB. adding up each player in the lineups. Officially, we have left 9 on base and the D’Backs 3.
Right. Thanks.
But it’s still aggravating.
Agreed.
That is now 5 innings where the Dodgers had the leadoff hitter reach base.
And we scored in only one of them, and that was thanks to a bases-loaded walk.
One of those nights to be sure.
And yet we’re still in it.
And now they’re getting the hits, each one falling in.
Grrr.
The 3-1 pitch shoulda been ball four.
Based on the Gameday graphic, it looked like it could have gone either way.
Pitchers that wild don’t usually get the benefit of the doubt.
CT you got to swing with 2 strikes.
I am appreciating Taylor’s resurgence, but he still strikes out too much. Has a higher percentage of Ks than any other Dodger with appreciable at bats.
Not exactly a tough take for Muncy.
Kershaw is off the hook. Now let’s win it for him.
Yay.
Up to Max.
Bad future person!
Duh of the day observation: This kid Verudgo is pretty darned good. He is also younger than Smith, Garlick or Beaty.
Smith, however, plays a premium position.
My feeling is that in Barnes and Martin we have two capable backup catchers and that Smith will before long be the regular.
Certainly by next season, perhaps before.
Let’s at least get Kershaw off the hook.
Not a great start for Kershaw.
Is this the inning Dodgers score again? Lots of baserunners this game.
I am not sure this game is stay up late worthy.
If you are all waiting for a walkoff homer to rejoin the conversation here, it cannot happen on a road game.
That will have to wait for Tuesday the 2nd, when it will be Garlick’s turn.
Prior to tonight, Greinke had only one plate appearance in his career vs. Kershaw, and he struck out in that one. He is now hitting .314 this season with a career-high three home runs.
Kershaw has now allowed 12 homers this season. It is his 13th start. In 2018 he allowed 17 homers in 26 starts.
So, no Beaty, Smith, who both bat left, or Garlick, who bats right, are starting tonight. Interesting.
Correction: Of the three above, only Beaty bats left. And when was the last time that the Dodgers had three catchers on their roster, all of whom batted right?
Not the optimal result from that last inning.
Muncy scorched it, but Walker made a fine play.
Bad situational hitting by JT there.
Not exactly?
He didn’t even advance the runner.
I know what Kershaw’s record is when he is given 4 runs to work with.
I don’t know what his record is when he gives up 4 runs.
When Pederson hasn’t been humoring us with catches of popups hiding in the sun, he has looked good at first base.
Not exactly…
This is going to be a tough game, I suspect.
Something tells me this won’t be the final score.
That still might not be good news.
Third HR of the season? I had no idea!
Pitcher can rake.
Ryu should take note.
Grumph.
Joc back to finding fielders
I’ve always been a Barnes fan but he is beginning to annoy me.
Total meatball.
Rob Reiner resembles that
The ol’ Kershaw / Greinke pitching duel
That’s a revolting development.
Bad future person!
Bad past person!
Settle down, Clayton.

Corey Who?
I am guessing that every Dodger that Greinke said were easy outs still enjoy hitting him.
Good start!
Grinding on Greinke
Hello Az, the Dodgers are in town
Joc finally misses a fielder for a hit
Back to hitting them to the fielder again.
Rotation for the rest of the series.
