I was mostly referring to the man on first and third, two on, one out, top of the order inability to bring a Ranger run home inning!
I remember my 13-year-old self being astonished that the Yankees would fire Yogi Berra after losing the 1964 World Series to the Cardinals; that was compounded by the Cardinals’ winning manager Johnny Keane quitting and taking the job Yogi had had in New York.
Keane had little success with the Yankees, not surprisingly as it was pretty much the same team that had won all those championships in the 1950s and had stood pat with them rather than rebuilding with new talent. If I knew then I’d forgotten by now that the subsequent season was the first losing one for the Yankees in 40 years. That’s a heck of a run.
