Dodgers at Rockies, 5:40 PM PDT, TV: ATTSportsNet-RM, SPNLA
LHP Clayton Kershaw (9-4, 2.72 ERA) pitches for the visiting Dodgers and RHP Connor Seabold (1-3, 5.88 ERA) pitches for the home team.
- 1939 In front of 2,457 fans at Braves Field, the Dodgers, with Whit Wyatt pitching the first 16 frames, and Boston plays 23 innings in a game that ends in a 2-2 tie when plate umpire Babe Pinelli called the five-hour and 15-minute contest at 8:15 pm due to darkness. The same teams at the same field played 26 innings to a 1-1 tie in 1920.
- 1940 To honor the lyricist of Take Me Out to the Ballgame, the Dodgers celebrate Jack Norworth Day at Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field. The songwriter and his partner Albert Von Tilzer, who wrote the music, had never seen a game when they created the song in 1908.
Carly Simon’s Take Me Out to the Ball Game illustrated by Amiko Hirao - 1980 Dodger southpaw Jerry Reuss, facing only 28 batters, no-hits the Giants at Candlestick Park, 8-0. Shortstop Bill Russell’s errant throw on Jack Clark’s grounder with two outs in the first inning deprives the 31 year-old left-hander from tossing a perfect game.
- 2011 Citing MLB refusal to sign off on a transaction that would provide the team with $385 million, the Dodgers file for bankruptcy protection in a Delaware court. Although there will be no disruption to the day-to-day status of the franchise, the Chapter 11 financing permits the Dodgers to use $150 million for daily operations and gives owner Frank McCourt time to seek a media deal that will ensure the club’s long-term financial stability.

Look at this catcher’s throw to second!

Quite the mechanics on this swing. https://twitter.com/MyKBO/status/1674096165200211969?s=20
Ah-ooooooooooooo. Kersh #207.
That’s not helpful for a bullpen game tomorrow having to bring in EP tonight.
Gotta do it, though. Get the W for Kersh, among other things.
Yes.
Excellent point.
300!
RBI3D5.
Another champagne night for the Dodgers tonight!!
Cold Duck.
Sliding into first is stupid, in almost all cases. You should only do it to avoid a tag.
Totally.
Behind a somewhat shaky start by old friend Rich Hill, the Yinzers lead the Pads 9-4 in the seventh. Dave’s fellow Canadians, though, have been flailing against the Gnats in the clutch and trail 1-0 in the eighth despite golden opportunities.
Come on Scrub Jays. Do better.
On research I notice there are three Canuck Scrub Jays – Vladdy, Jordan Romano, and old friend Zach Pop.
Kershaw felt something which caused him to leave the game after the 6th.
Hopefully it was the altitude…
Clayton: “10-4, good buddy”
You got that right.
NL’s first 10 game winner. Could start the All-Star game.
Yippee!
Never in doubt.
Phew-HOO!!!
What was Steiner’s call on that one?!
Fouled straight back…
Let you know when it happens. Audio is miles behind actual game play.
Fairly normal to be honest. He saw that one well.
Dodgers win!
I prefer live-wire to high-wire, Mr. Bickford.
Room Service? Can we order a DP please?
Make that a pop up now thank you.
Nope. Sacks loaded.
That’s better Bick.
Bickford pitching like a guy who has been asked to close down a 5 run lead in the 9th inning but is not fully comfortable doing it.
Good grief.
Coors says hello.
Throw bloody strikes!
Ummm – Bickford?
C’mon Bick..
WP? Come on, Phil.
Ok Phil Bickford. Shut them down.
Betts 0-5. But fortunately didn’t slow the Dodgers down.
In fact the top 4 were 1-16 with a walk. (And 2 runs scored).
RBI – just realized the Dodger pitching never gave us the opportunity to get a Jumbo Jack! They never got 10 strikeouts in the games we saw.
Trust me – you’re fortunate that you didn’t.
Lol. We also didn’t get to In and Out. But we did get to Dunkin’ Donuts.
You shoulda gone to taco trucks.
Next time.
Also, the Farmer’s Mkt. We did have great Persian from Al Wazir.
I can’t imagine going to LA and eating at Jack’s.
Hey Dave, what did you eat at the ballpark? Did you get a DodgerDog?
Had a Dodger Dog indeed!
That’s not a good thing. Poor Mears.
If JD hits another HR he will pass Kershaw as the player of the night. (Because I am apparently the decider of such awards.)
How rude of him if he did.
Fair enough.
Nice!
Graterol – strike more guys out man.
Or get guys get on and then throw double play balls. You do you I guess.
It’s so fun- now I can hear your actual voice with your comments.
Come on Graterol. Don’t let them in.
Daniel Hudson on his way back. Hope he is a strong arm in the pen again.
Martinez is going to feel real good after the game tonight with two home runs and impressive number 300. Meanwhile Outman with two singles will be feeling good himself.
Surprised they aren’t going longer with Kershaw. One more inning at least.
It looks like he signaled he was done.
Thank you for that info.
Yeah, I think it is Kershaw himself who decides how long he goes and this has been the case for at least 5-6 years. Guessing that mile-high pitches count more than sea level pitches.
Bear down, Brewster!
With a bullpen game tomorrow, I’d let Klayton go another inning.
Go figure.
Jerkson tootblan.
Devil Rays stinging back in Phoenix, now trailing 5-4 in the second.
A hot JD is a good thing.
An essential thing.
No no-hitter. And no facing the min either.
I stand corrected. Lol Rockies.
Phooey. But now I can breathe.
Heavy sigh. LOL
As I remember, Rojas made a diving play on a hard hit ground ball to protect an interesting for Kershaw. Hanley Ramirez later had an error to spoil the perfecto.
Interesting that Ramirez blew the perfecto for Kersh and Russel blew a perfecto for Reuss.
JD!!
Boom. JD.
300!
Tough division- gnats won 3-0, Snakes up 4-0 in the first.
Scrub Jays lost – they had plenty of opportunities and did nothing with them. Devil Rays mounting a rally.
Pads lost ugly to the Yinzers.
Dang. I was hoping Kershaw would have a real run towards a perfecto. Unreasonable but still…
Could still face the minimum however
He’s way lower on strikeouts in this game than his usual.
Pros and cons to that of course.
Pros – can mean fewer pitches thrown.
Cons – more contact means more chance of hits.
Puds lose in Pittsburgh. Yay.
RBI and Dave, did you guys help Scoop get his interest in the Dodgers ramped back up?
He is still interested in the Dodgers. I just think he is just spending a bit less time visiting here at Elysian Fields.
Hey Dave, RBI, and Scoop. Glad you all had a great weekend.
We hope so! He is beyond knowledgeable and such a great guy. I am now the proud owner of a Scooplew baseball card…
Meant for comment above!
Thanks. Next time, Ohiododger.
48 pitches through 4 is great for Kershaw. Not many K’s but that’s alright.
And nice play(s) by Rojas to keep things clean.
Strike outs usually increase pitch counts, I’m guessing.
12 straight outs for Kershaw.
JD!!!
Let’s go JD! 299!
Busch was doing reasonably well at 3rd. Could have played Max at 2b and optioned Vargas.
https://twitter.com/Dodgers/status/1673836556044636160
Or could’ve played Busch at second.
FO is pretty much committed to the Vargas thing. Busch would have had to been doing much, much better for him to stick, whereas he was not even doing as well as Vargas.
Outman rbi! Let’s keep it going.
Max is backx.
Missing Scooplew, Winnipeg Dave, and Bereket after a fun-filled weekend.
Have they all returned home?
Yep.
I had the opportunity to attend Reuss’s no-no at Candlestick but, unfortunately, I passed on it.
